Ruger SA grip frames

Which do you prefer.....Bisley, Vaquero/Blackhawk, or Birdshead grip styles? What is the advantage of each, in your opinions.

I've never tried a Birdshead grip, so I'll just discuss the other two and wait on those who have tried all three.

I like the pointability and feel of the Vaquero/Blackhawk grip the best, they just point so well for me and feel good in the hands.

The Bisley grip feels kind of odd, but I keep hearing its best suited for heavy recoiling rounds. I do like how the hand rides closer to the hammer with the Bisley grip.

I don't notice a difference in recoil between the Vaquero and Bisley grips, but my <single action revolver> shooting has been mostly low powered .38 specials or cowboy level .45 LC's, with some .357 magnum mixed in. I've never actually shot the hard recoiling rounds from either the Vaquero or the Bisley (though I have shot a few double action .44 magnums, and I have a feel for the recoil).

I guess you shouldn't judge a gun by it's looks, but all of us do.
I've always liked the traditional, "plow handle" look.
The one that I grew up watching my heroes on TV use.

I just got a Cabela/Pietta Colt replica, and a .357 Vaquero, both with traditional handles.
To me they just feel right.

It's quite possible that a Bisley or Bird's head may be easier to shoot.
I wouldn't mind having a Sheriff's model with Birds head grips in .357.

For a .44 mag, I'll take the bisley to shrug off more recoil.
In .41 or .357 the blackhawk with adjustable sights, or a red dot scope.
For a small "sheriff's model", short barreled medium power coyboy gun, you can't beat the birdshead grip for fun.

On one recent run of the .32Mag fixed-sight Single Sixes, they used the Blackhawk/Vaquero type grip but shortened it by 1/4"! THAT to me is now the most desirable type, for modest power levels around .357/.44Spl or below. It would allow the "pinkie curled under" technique yet an easier reach to the traditional hammer.

I hope Qualitas or somebody similar figures out how potentially cool this is, and offers it as an aftermarket part. It'll probably be a while before we can order 'em as a Ruger part through Brownells or whatever.

Even though I prefer the Vaquero styling, I really wish Ruger offered the adjustable sighted Bisley in stainless with barrel lengths in the 4 5/8th to 5.5" range. Yes, I know Accu Sport had a limited edition Ruger Bisley with 5.5" barrel in stainless, but I'd prefer a production gun like this. Its not as easy to find the special editions, and I think the adjustable sighted Bisleys could sell like mad if people had other choices besides the blued 7.5" model. Just my opinion. I also wish they offered the convertible Blackhawks in stainless, I don't care for the alloy grip at all.

I agree CZ
I bought a 5.5 blued blackhawk 45 LC and had a stainless bisley grip frame put on it, just because they don't make a Stainless 5.5 bisley.

I have one of the special model Accu-Sport models. .45 Colt, 5.5" barrel, adjustable sights, Bisley grip. I love it. I wish Ruger would make it more often.
