Ruger Rings on MKII

I have been playing with the Ruger ring setup that came with my Ruger MKII. I have a 2x scope that I installed into the rings. I finally got the scope dialed in after much windage adjustment. From looking along the gun it appears that the scope is crooked! The bell does not line up with the rear sight on the gun. I took it all apart and it looks like the holes that were tapped in the gun are OK. Everything separately "looks" OK, but when I put it all together it is out of alignment. Not to mention that I have had a problem with it shooting loose. I loctited everything but the two big thumbscrews and those are shooting loose too. I wanted to be able to remove it if needed so I didnt use loctite on those, but just tightened them down - still they came loose. Now thinking of getting a Weaver style base and different rings. Do they make one that does not necessitate the removal of the rear sight?

Thanks,

I just ordered one from Brownells made by Weigand for $14.95. They had another made by Clark I think, but it was twice as much $.

I am not particularly fond of the Ruger rings either. You can loctite them as long as you use just a small dab of the blue or green stuff. Never use the red stuff on little gun screws. It is much too strong.

I ordered a pair of the Millett Angle-Loc rings designed to fit Ruger bases. The reings are windage adjustable and I have yet to have one work loose. They have clamping screws on both sides of the ring. Therefor, to ensure the ability to be able to remove and reinstall the scope without upsetting the zero, it is a good idea to loc-tite the screw on one side of each ring.

If you want a new mounting system all together, www.ontargetguns.com sells the volquartsen and the Clark mounts. Personally, I would opt for the clark mount since the Volquartsen requires removal of the rear sight.

Good luck.
