Ruger Redhawk

Not the Super Redhawk, the original .44 Rem Mag Redhawk. What is your experience with this revolver? I have a couple Blackhawks, like 'em, and I have a GP-100. So I've had good luck with this make. What say ye?

They shoot great. I've never shot one at distance, but I shot a "Mystery Gun" stage one time that had a Redhawk with factory .44 mag ammo, and did really well with it.

Mine is a great shooter. It's the "Hunter" version with the 7-1/2-in. barrel and scope rings. Put a Leupold 2x scope on it for my old eyes.

I just put a 12# Wolff spring in my Redhawk, chambered in .45 Colt.

Have yet to bring it to the range to make sure it reliably fires with the lighter spring, but I'm pretty confident.

The Ruger, with that simple mod, now has a light and smoother trigger than my S&W Performance Works 325 TR.

Have one with 4.2 inch barrel, shoots good and if you get tired of the recoil from the mags you can shoot specials through it and the gun absorbs the recoil from those so you hardly notice it

Absurdly happy with mine. 4.2".

I was initially put off by the recoil of the .44Mag, but since getting Butler Creek grips, learning to hold it properly despite putting together some steroidal handholds, I can say that it is my favourite gun by some margin.

Loooooove it!

I got one in 44mag Hunter model and recoil was harsh. I sent it to Mag-na-port and had it ported and put on Houge Monogrips and it is very managable now.

Was my favorite deer gun for years until .454 Casull became legal in Ohio. My only complaint is that, unlike my old GP100, I never much cared for the Redhawk factory grips. I bought this in the early 80's and have shots thousands of rounds through it.

I had a 7.5" model .44 mag for a while and liked it well enough, but I don't hunt much anymore, so it sat in the safe.

Then, I had the opportunity to acquire a John Gallagher Custom Redhawk which had been cut down to 3.5".

P,JP's description; "Absurdly happy" is close enough. It is a positive delight to shoot.

I love the original Redhawk. My favorite all around utilitarian revolver in .44 Mag. Years ago, I bought a 4.2 inch that I carry in bear country or while pig/deer hunting when I do not want to carry a long barreled revolver. Last year, I bought the new 2.75 inch with a round butt. Redhawks are different. People either love them or hate them. I do not know why so many people dislike them. It is a brutally strong design with triple locks. The hammer/trigger can be greatly improved with a Wolfe Spring and a little honing. The hammer and trigger pull are longer than a N-frame smith but can be just as smooth.

I can hit soda cans at 50 yards with my 4.2 inch shooting a cast 300 grain SWC over 19.0 grains of 2400. My father hunts with his 7.5 inch Hunter and loves it. In No. California, deer and hog shots are rarely over 75 yards.

Get one, you wont be disappointed..!

I wanted one for quite a while, but could only find stainless and I wanted blue. One of the guys over at the LGS turned me onto a guy who was selling a used one in blue with the 4.5 in. or so barrel. I bought it after letting the gunsmith look at it. No box and it had the original grips plus Hogue rubber grips and a trigger job. It is a great shooter and built like a tank. I cannot remember how much I paid for it but I think it was about $600. It is a pretty sweet gun.

I like my Hunter and Leupold scope, though I prefer the balance of a friend's S&W Model 29 with the scope mounted on the frame.

In the early eighties, my wife gave me a Redhawk for Father's Day. It's been a very reliable, accurate revolver and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a .44 Magnum. Though, in my experience, the opposite is usually true, I like the da pull (smooth and light) on my Redhawk much better than I like the sa pull (heavier than I prefer). The only thing I changed was to exchange the factory stocks for a set of Eagle after-market grips.

I love mine. They're mass really soaks up .44 Magnum recoil. The kick of .44 mag in my Redhawk doesn't seem to be much great than .44 Special in my 3" Taurus 431. They are an excellent value .44 DA, being a fair amount less expensive than a S&W on the used market.

I picked this 5.5" .44 Mag up from an individual 6 years ago. He offered to sell the gun, pistol case, 50 rounds of JHP ammunition and a nylon shoulder holster to me ... for $300. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough :p .
