Im a proud owner of a brand new Redhawk, but after firing a cpl hundred rounds,i have noticed some odd yellowish residue that is at the top of the gun where the barrel meets the frame.is this normal and if it is how do i clean it off?any assistance anyone can give me is much appreciated,as i'm afraid to fire the gun now untill i find out what that residue is.

Seems like it would be grease or something between the barrel and frame. My sks has something similiar form around the gas vents. Did you buy the gun NIB? Ruger does use some odd grease from the factory... does it kind of bubble out?

I bought it NIB about a month ago.
I'm not sure what you mean "bubble".it seems to be coming from the frame and onto the barrel.(?)
This is my first revolver and i have never seen this before in my old 45 auto.
The residue is powdery....................

Ruger may have used some type of lube or thread sealant on the barrel threads and that is now seeping out due to shock and heat. Try scraping it off with your fingernail.

I think I remember my Redhawk doing that when I first got it. I cleaned it off. Went away after awhile. Probably just grease or oil from final assembly oozing out.

When the gun shoots, and the metal gets warm, it expands of course. So that oil was trapped in the metal, and will only come out when it expands. So, pretty much means you gotta get that gun warm a few times to get it all out!

:D

Some of the slower burningt powders I use in the .44 Mag Redhawk leaves yellowish fouling on the frame around the forcing cone. I just use some good solvent and an cleaning brush (toothbrush works fine) and scrub. A Lewis lead removing cloth will usually knock it back when it is extremely bad.

Ok,So i shouldn't worry then?
i cleaned it all off but it looked suspicious, and i wanted some advice from my more experienced brothers.
thank you all for your time and attention :)

My #1 in .45-70 still produces that every once in a while, it's not the forcing cone area, it's the front of the frame where the barrel screws in.
I just clean it off till the next time. Assumed it was a thread sealer. Doesn't seem to affect anything.
