Iv'e been considering adding another .41 mag to my collection, and am looking at a Ruger Redhawk . I read somewhere that the Redhawks made during the middle of the 1980's had problems with loosing where the barrel attaches to the frame. Have anyone on this site experienced this problem? Thanks in advance.

I've definitely heard of the problem -- but I've never heard it attributed to .41 Magnum Redhawks, but only the .44 Magnum version.

I'm not saying it wasn't a problem for the .41 Mags, only that I have definitely heard about the problem and more than once, but it's always been a .44 Magnum when I've heard it.

It had to do with some sort of a compound that was put on the barrel threads and mistakenly allowed to harden over a weekend so when it was assembled later, it set the guns up for failure. The shooter pulls the trigger, fires a shot and also watches his barrel fall off. I can't imagine the horror!:p

The good news is that Ruger absolutely returns these guns to the customers all fixed and with no charges in the rare event that it happens.

I didn't let it stop me from buying a great, used .44 Magnum Redhawk, and in your shoes -- I wouldn't let it stop me from looking for a .41 Magnum Redhawk, either.

I have a mid 80's manufactured Redhawk,so far I have at least 500 rounds fired thru mine and so far no looseness at all.they are a real beast thats for sure.I think if a person ran into one of the bad ones Ruger would more than likely take care of the problem.

Don't worry about your barrel.

The 5.5" .41 Magnum Redhawks are very nice. I even liked the feel of the factory grips when I was doing my initial dry firing. But when I started shooting real loads with recoil, things went south. The factory grips just keep hitting the side of my thumb and abrading the same spot over and over. Until it finally starts to bleed.

I replaced them with some German made Nills wood grips. They look great, they fill the hand, and they don't make me bleed!
