Ruger Red Label barrel problems???

Is anyone aware of any problems with Ruger Red Label shotgun barrels, namely rust in the bore, not the chamber of new guns?? Does anyone know where the Ruger shotgun barrels are made?

I know that Ruger pistols and rifles recveivers are cast.

I have had and well used one for about 7 years with no problem. Mine is well cared for which I think resolves the issue more than anything else.

Have a Red label 12 o/u for 10 years without problem. Try using Bullfrog to wipe away the rust and clean and oil weapon frequently. Sounds like a mainenance problem.

I have had 2 for at least 15 years now (well,15 years between my father and me technically) and have never had a problem. They even sat in a safe virtually untouched in a basement for about 7-8 years and still look just like new.I suspect humidity and lack of proper oiling.

Carbon steel rusts regardless where it is made or by whom. Most likely as was said it's a maintenance issue. Try wiping your guns down and oiling the bore with plain SAE 30 motor oil. It's higher viscosity will adhere to the metal better than these "gun oils" that flow like water, and it will remain there longer as well. All I've ever used on my guns is standard motor oil, either 30 or 40 weight. I've never had a gun rust in over 35 years. You can't beat the price either. Around a buck a quart as opposed to several dollars for a couple of ounces. Bill T.

I have not cleaned my gun in almos a year except to wipe off the outside when it gets wet or extremely dirty. never had any kind of rust problems wether it be outside or in the bore, but it is a newer gun with a chrome lined bore. when was your gun made? prior to a few years ago, this was only done on higher end guns and may not have been done to your gun. a non chrome lined barrel will rust in no time and WILL require constant oiling of the bore/chamber.
