I am looking at a Ruger sp101 made in the late 80's. Are the hammer and trigger forged or MIM on these guns?

So it wouldn't hurt it to polish it to a mirror finish?

Would the parts need to be re-hardened after polishing? What about after re-shaping to smooth the action?
Nope.
Let me say this- unless you know *exactly* what youre doing, don't do an action job on it yourself.
The parts are hard all the way through, but I found the SP-101 to not be terribly responsive to trigger work to lighten the DA stroke. Talk to a good gunsmith about getting the work done- Mark Morganti comes to mind.
