Ruger pump?

I posed this question on a different thread but it got me thinking and I thought it deserved its own thread for others who might have thought the same thing. Anyone else ever wonder why there is no pump shotgun from Ruger. As popular as pumps are and it seems that every other manufacturer has one why not Ruger? I have a Red Label which has never failed me yet and seems to be one of the best built guns I have which includes an old Model 12 and a Remington Wingmaster. I think Ruger could build a very nice pump on a par with these two models and price it competitively. I just dont want them cranking out a 1300 or an express. I like my guns pretty too:D

I have always wondered the same thing. I was just telling my wife the other day that I would like to see Ruger come out with a semi-auto shotgun.

I'm sure Ruger could build a very nice pump. I doubt they're willing to.

Ruger strategy is to discover a niche and fill it with a weapon the average guy can afford by using the best modern technology like investment casting. The original 22 pistol filled the niche formerly owned by the Colt Woodsman and the various High Standards, the Mini 14 was developed as an alternative to the AR system. Both were priced much cheaper than older guns.

Good pumps aren't scarce, US made O/Us and SXSs are.

Right on Dave. Why produce another pump when we already have so many to choose from.

A good business strategy is to fill a need, new pumps are not a need. Why waste all the R & D on a market that is already saturated.

The Red Labels were a stroke of genius, the new SXS will be also, when it shows up.

Thanks guys, I should have thought about that. Good business means being able to sell the product and with so many others out there that already do the job very well why try to compete with perfection.

Your right on target guys
I recently attended ruger armorey school and the same question was posed to the instrustor(Bill Wood ,Very knowlgable man)and he gave pretty much the same answer,Not the right market

I had a chance to breeze through this month's Shooting Times and they featured Bill Ruger in that edition. In part of an interview with him, IIRC, he said that he bought a pump gun from someone but never did anything with it. Could be something else, but I think it was a pump gun.
