Ruger-proof scope?

Ok, I have my new Ruger No.1S in .45-70. I have been handloading the cartridge with 405gr cast bullets on top of 60 grains of FFG for my Remington Rolling Block Creedmoor, so I know that's a comfortable load, albeit not optimal, for the lighter Ruger falling block. But I will go smokeless and jacketed with the new Ruger, and of course, recoil will increase. I'd like a fixed-power 4x scope that will handle the snap of the faster .45-70 loads. Some say the Leupold 1.5-5x small-objective scopes were perfectly designed for the combination. I'm not saying I will run those awesome Garrett Hammerheads, but I also don't want to wreck a scope or have it slip in the rings if I touch off a few 300gr jacketed zingers. What have the other big-bore Ruger No.1 shooters settled on? Thanks in advance!

Gewehr98, My Friend. I am still using the Leupold VX III 1.5x5 in Warne QD mounts on the #1 45/70 that I have. I have only been running pretty stiff 350 gr. loads through it and things seem to be holding together well. I have not tried taking the Warne mount off and putting it back on yet but the scope seems happy. The comming hunting season may give me the need to remove and replace the scope.

one other thing, I don't know how well made ruger rings are, but the aluminum ones i tried to put on my light weight pump actually bent at the towers under recoil, it might be worth your while to buy a spare set of rings and put as many as possable, 3 or fourm i can't remember how many slots there is on a #1, to hold your scope.
