I was considering purchasing a Ruger P97DC
in .45 ACP. Not considering hand fit wich is a individual thing I was looking for info on functioning, accuracy and comments on this pistol. I would also add that I will be reloading for this gun if purchased.

Thanks

Pick up the Feb 2000 issue of Guns&Ammo. There is a good article on the P97. I plan to get one as soon as I can afford it!!!!!

I just got the P95. It was a hard choice between the P95 and P97, but I wanted it for target shooting and 9mm ammo is half the price. However, I hope to pick up a P97 as quickly as possible.

Check out www.rugerforum.com

Be sure to buy a raffle ticket from the site as well. The winner gets their choice of any Ruger auto. If it win, it'll be the P97 and the only choice to make will be DAO or DC.

Thanks for the info guys. I went to the Ruger forum and found some interseting stuff on the P97. I have not gotten my Feb. issue of Guns & Ammo as of yet. The P97DC is $390 at my gun local shop and I thought it looked like a good way to get into 45 ACP. I had a P85 MKII that would digest any ammo including reloads, The gun never malfunctioned on me and I was wondering if I would be getting the same reliabilty/durability with the P97.

I have owned and carried my P97 for a year now. I carry CCW in an IWB belly band. So far I have put over 3000 rounds through her of every kind of ammunition from Ball to Semi-Wad. Never a failure yet. The new plastice they developed has fibers running through it that make it stronger then any other on the market. Because of this it doesn't recquire the steel support plates to give it strength like most others do. In addition the P97's new cam-lock system keeps the cycling of the slide from ever impacting the frame before it returns for the next shot. This also removes stress from the frame. This also lowers the felt recoil dramatically. The new sig P245 is a smaller gun with smaller barrel but yet weighs only one ounce less.

The end result is a mid sized, concealable, 4.2" barrel, 27 ounce, accurate and smooth shooting gun for under $400.

I shoot mine every month and average 2" at 15 yd from a weaver stance.

You will be very proud of your purchase.

I've owned my P97 for about 3 months now and have put 1,200 rounds through it in that time. It's my main carry weapon. I use a concealment waist pack from Northwest Security Products of Haines, AK.

I love the gun. For the money, I don't think you can beat it!

A sleeper for sure.

Just picked one up. Impressed; much better than I thought it would be. A whole lotta bang for your buck!

Looks good, feels good, handles good. Reliable and accurate (as good as the G30, P245/220, USP45c).

I keep reading it has a 3.9 inch bbl; mine measures exactly 4.0

I will admit that the P97 is a good pistol, but for me, I HATED how the grip fit my hand. I thought it was too slick. I shot it because I wanted to really see how it did, and found that I didn't like the trigger at all. My buddy has the p95 and I liked shooting his(though I know there are differences between the P97 and P95). I ended up getting a Witness .45 and haven't looked back. My dad has the P90 and for some reason, I liked shooting that better than the P97. Go figure? Ruger builds solid pistols so I you like the P97, it will probably give you a lifetime of service, all things being equal. Good luck. Mike
