Ruger P97 "flying slide stop" problem solved yet?

Anybody know if the "flying slide stop" problem has been solved with Ruger P97s?

I'm looking hard at one of these.

Thanks

mini14jac: What's the flying slide stop problem? My P97 runs flawlessly. Where can my P97's slide stop take flying lessons? All mine does is stop the slide when it's supposed to and release same on command. So far it has been a very well behaved pet.

Not that I have heard. My problem with the P97 is the same problem I have with the P95: to big for concealed carry!!

Bummer:
According to what I have read here, and on Rugerforum.com, a common problem with P97s is the slide stop popping out after a couple of hundred rounds.

From what I have read, if your gun has the problem, it shows up after 200 or so rounds.
It would appear that most 97s don't have problem, but a significant number do.
Some say that new parts, free from Ruger, fix this.

Oh well, it's not like I really need another caliber to worry about.

My P97 has close to 1,000 rounds through it with no problems. I've looked it over and thought about it and just can't understand how the slide stop can fly out unless the little lip that rides under the slide is sheared off. Oh well. Every manufacturer produces a few lemons, even Ruger. But my experience with the P97 has only been good. If it doesn't work for some reason, Ruger will make it right.

I've got a new P95 that I haven't really broken in yet.
(Seems almost identical to the P97, except caliber and mag capacity.)
I agree that the inner "lip" of the slide stop looks like it would have to break, before it could come out.

I haven't read a good explanation of how it happens, or what caused it.

KP97s

pigshooter,

From what I have seen it was just a couple of guys who supposedly had a problem and then whined excessively about it.
Seemed kind of suspicious to me.

My KP97DAO has performed flawlessly over several thousand rounds. It does prefer the bullets to be sized .452 over .451 for best accuracy. The jacketed bullets do just fine at .451.

My 97 is fine and the only time the slide stop comes off is when I field strip it. It is my winter, easy to conceal, carry weapon. It is also my open carry weapon regardless of season.

Dependable, accurate, easy on the recoil, More frequently we have heard of last round brass ejected to forehead problems but this has also been fixed by Ruger by an extractor re-design recently developed. Since I changed out my extractor, my 97 has been an absolute charm.
