Ruger P95 Impressions

Took the P95 I bought used to the range yesterday. Put 225rds of American Eagle 124gr FMJ and Ga Arms 124gr JHP+P thru it. Reliability was 100% (can't say that about some of my Glocks lately). Accuracy was as good as most of my Glocks. This pistol fits my hands well but smaller people will have problems. It soaks up recoil better than my G17. I am impressed. Now where can I find factory hi caps? Looks like the P89 or P97 will be next for me.

Tom,

Hi caps for the earlier Ruger P-series 9mms will fit. I believe Pro-Mag and USA Mag still have prebans in stock; I paid $21 each for a pair of preban 15 rounders for my P95 at a gun show. Shop around, because I saw the same mags for $40 at another table.

Glad you like your P95. We like ours, too.

The Ruger factory hi caps are around, but they aren't cheap. On some web sites, I've seen them as high as $70. I have five hi caps total, and I payed between 50 and 60 apiece at gun shows for three of them (new). But you can run across a deal now and then. I just got two new ones for $32 each the other day on eBay--only because the seller didn't advertise them as hi-caps. If he had, eBay administration would have yanked the auction.

Still, even with this good deal, I'm averaging $48 a mag, so you're likely going to spend some money if you go after the factory mags. Many people on the Ruger forum swear by the factory mags best, but Mec-Gar is supposed to work well in the P series. Last gun show I went to though, a lady wanted $50 for her Mec-Gar hi-caps. Might as well get the factory mags at that price.

Good luck. As one poster noted, the Ruger factory hi-caps often seem to be made out of unobtainium these days.

Just as an afterthought...

While you're spending your precious time and energy trying to track down a $50 mag that ought to cost $20 and be freely available, be sure to stop a moment and thank the Clinton-Gore administration.

Try www.cdnninvestments.com

They've got a sale on P85/95 mags, hi cap, for $9.99. The 800 number is 1-800-588-9500.

(Just got my catalog yesterday, so they should still have some in stock!)

Do you think the P-95 would make a good lady's gun for the range? How is the trigger reach?

No - The trigger reach is very long and the DA pull is stout. The combination of the two make it hard on small hands.

My P95 is the only one of my 9mm guns that I can put all 15 rounds into a quarter size hole from 15 yards. I used mine to qualify for my AZ CCw. the only trouble is now that I carry concealed 99% of the time, I find that it is too BIG!!!! It has the smoothest trigger pull of all my guns, and is the most accurate, and it's a Ruger!!!!! Go figure!!! ;)

Yeah, I got a permit to carry,it's called the friggin Constitution.---Ted Nugent

Tom B,

I'm in Georgia also, and I got my factory Ruger P-95 from Pannel's Firearms. One of the younger guys there is rather rude, but thats where I used to shoot. I got my P-95 mag for 59.00 (too much). I paid that much though becasue it was in excellent condition.

Roswell Gun Specialty is where I bought both of my guns, and they sell mags too. I've started shooting at Advanced Bullets, and they may have a few. I'm sure Adventure Outdoors has a few as well. Anyways, you need to join our little GA TFL shoots that we have every once in a while.
