Would like opinions on this pistol. Reliability, accuracy, how it handles,ect...

Also, is this pistol particular about what it's fed, or will it eat anything?

Thanks in advance,
long shot!

Had one awhile back. Good gun. Rugged, 100% reliable and accurate enough. Very good gun for the money and you get Ruger's excellent customer service.

Regards,
Frank

The P944 is a very strong gun. Mine didn't like CCI Blazers, everything else has been no problem. Accuracy isn't as good as some other pistols, but it's still good enough to get the job done, 3-5 inch groups at 25 yards from a rest is typical. Mine also has one of the tightest chambers I have seen in a 40, fired brass comes out at .425 inches. What I really like about this gun is the fact that the design is very simple, you can completely strip it (including the hammer/sear/trigger assembly) in less than a minute. This gun is about the most bang for the buck you can get.

I recently won an auction on one of the two tone models ($275 delivered) as a companion piece to my Police Carbine.

Bedlamite, what about the Blazers did yours dislike? Did you have feeding or just accuracy problems?

I haven't bought any ammo in quantity yet, but will soon.

I am really enjoying mine. It is reasonably accurate and is fun to shoot. I have fed probably 500 rounds of various types (expensive stuff, cheap stuff, ball, hollow point, etc) and every single one fed beautifully.

The gun strips to its parts easily and quickly and is easy to assemble.

I got mine because I could get the gun, holster, extra mag, and plenty of practice ammo for the same price as just the gun from H&K, etc.

long shot; It seems we're comparing a Beretta to a Ruger. There dead even except for two areas. Looks-which is important to some folks..Beretta wins. Value-which is important to all of us..Ruger wins hands down. I've had both. If price is not a factor I'd got with the Beretta. They were both very, very reliable. Best, J. Parker

I have a Ruger P89DC stainless which I really like. It has never failed to feed or fire. I find it to be nice looking, reasonably accurate, and reliable. The trigger took a little getting used to. It's a keeper.

Ruger P94 40 cal--utterly dependable and reliable with any type of ammo. You cannot make this gun fail to feed. Never a jam, never a stove pipe in two years of shooting.

The fastest non-plastic gun to field strip and re-assemble that I've ever cleaned.

Needs a Hogue aftermarket grip to help with stability in my hand.

Groups were never better than 3 to 3.5 inches at 10 yards and always tended to be a bit left.

I traded it in on a Beretta 8045 Cougar (with an extra $300) and didn't have any regrets, BUT I feel the Ruger is a GREAT value for the money.

About one out of ten wouldn't feed properly, and it didn't matter where in the magazine. They would jam with the nose up, but that was also last year when the gun was still fairly new, and I haven't tried any Blazers since. When they fed, accuracy was on par with most other ammo.

J. Parker: One other area that the Beretta wins in is accuracy, I can get group sizes under 1.5" @ 25yds with my 96Elite from a rest.

bedlamite; That kind of accuracy from a .40 cal pistol is excellent. I love Beretta's, always have. Good Shooting, J. Parker

A friend has one, it's been reliable with everything (I mean everything) for thousands of rounds, as accurate as any Glock, usually as fast/faster than the G22/23. Rental ranges say the same about them.

OTOH, the Ruger autos were at the bottom of the list on the FBIs pistol eval of the late 80s (tops were the SIG P226, S&W 645 BTW). I think the Rugers came in last when the INS/Border Patrol tested 40s (they OKd the Beretta/SIG, just bought USPs too).

OTOF (on the other foot), NYPD dropped the SIG, never approved Beretta for std issue, did add the Ruger P95. Some feds do use them. Bureau of Prisons for one.

I love my P97. Would like to see a polymer 40/357!
