Ruger P90 questions

I am confused about a new (used) P90 I just bought. Am I correct in that the slide is steel and the frame is aluminum?

The gun has some serious externel wear (it is the blued model) and I'd like to fix it up a little without breaking the bank. Almost everyone is recommending against any coating (nickle, teflon, etc.). So, what would you recommend to fix the worn bluing and scratches (surficial scratches only)? I know cold blue can be used for touch up, but does that work on aluminum?

Any ideas? Maybe spray paint?

Sir:
Don't bead blast the frame it might be anodized (not sure). Not familiar with Ruger semi-autos! Call Ruger - they're very, very good and liberal in their quality - the probably would restore it for little or nothing.

If you check Brownell's web site, I think they have a product for darkening Aluminum but I don't know how well it works. If you decide to have it professionally refinished, make sure they know how to properly prepare the Aluminum for the new finish without damaging the Anodizing or it will have to be re-anodized. Don't waste your time with hardware/automotive type spray paint.
Some types of coatings can not be applied to internal parts since they are too thick and will interfere with moving parts. Other types of coatings can be applied to all parts with no problems. Before deciding on a cured-on type coating, visit their web sites and check the specifications. (Chemical resistances, wear tests, mil-specs, etc) A good coating will list them all.
Also, like the other poster said: Check with Ruger. I don't know about their re-finishing services but I have twice dealt with their repair/customer service department and they are excellent. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.
