Ruger P89T For $299

I have a chance at a new Ruger P89T for $299. I looked in Ruger's current catalog and they do not list a P89T. It has a blued slide with a dull gray aluminum frame.

I have small hands, yet I seem to be able to operate all the controls.

Advice on how old this model is, the availability of hi-cap mags, the shootability and accuracy of this model would be welcome.

I plan on using it basically as a "fun gun" in 9mm. I trust my Glocks for more serious matters. Just seemed the price was too good to pass up.

The P89T has no major differences from the regular P89. The "T" and "TH" models were custom editions done by Davidsons I believe. The "T" model is a two-tone (blued and parkerized) and the "TH" is two-toned with wrap-around Hogue grips.

I have a P90TH model myself. I have noticed that these models have prices slightly above what a blued or stainless model may have, but not much. $299 seems to be a decent price.

Standard capacity (15rd) mags can still easily be found in gunshops and on the internet in both factory and aftermarket flavors as well as High capacity (30rd) mags. The hi-caps being a bit harder to find.

bad_dad_brad: falconer sumed it up real good but I got to tell ya those P-89's are awesome pistols. To repeat- 15 round factory mags are not to tough to come buy and there're ALOT cheaper than factory Glock's (sorry). True, they are HEFTY pistols but there're just as reliable as Glock's at half the price. Don't short change that P-89 for it can protect you as well as your Glock. For the Two-Tone I'm lookin' at $318 so I think you got a good price. Best Regards, J. Parker

I own both the Glock17 and the P89 along with 4-5 other nines. If I had to pick one, it would be the P89. It took me awhile to get used to it, but after that, I honestly consider it the best. Flame on.

For anywhere from $50 to $75 less, you can get a P-95, an improved version of the P-89, with a polymer frame. It has a slightly smaller grip, and is a fundamentally more accurate gun. Chances are it will have better resale value, too, if you ever decide to trade up.

Most importantly, its just as durable and reliable as the P-89.

The P-95 uses the same mags as the P-89, so hi-caps are available.

Some folks don't like the slick polymer grip, so get a Hogue handall grip for it, and you're fixed.
