I am curious what others think of Ruger P-Series. Personally, I like them (especially the P95 and P97). They are not the best, but they do get the job done well IMO.

Based on my experiences, I would rate the P95 and P97 as "very good", but the other models (P89 to P94) as only "average". The earlier models especially the P89 and P90 lack refinement such as ergonomics and trigger pull. So, overall I am going with "good".

I have a P95. I would rate it as excellent!!! I shoot only one other handgun as well as I do the Ruger. My Walther P99!!!!:)

I think the alloy frame P series pistols are better than the polymer framed ones,i've been down both roads, i own a
p-97 now and should have kept my P-90,it's more accurate, felt better in my hands and i didn't mind the little extra weight

Pros:
1. Reliable as heck. I have never had a malfunction with factory ammo in my particular Ruger.
2. Cheap aftermarket standard and hi-cap mags.
3. Although not match accurate, they will reliably put the rounds on target with a wide range of ammo.

Cons:
1. Aesthetically not really pleasing to most folks
2. 'Decent' trigger system, at best.

I strongly encourage the purchase of Ruger P-series pistols, especially the polymer-frame models.

I second Charles' opinions on the pros:

1. Reliable: I have about 1000 rounds through mine, never a malf.

2. Cheap hi-caps: I paid $7 each for my 15 rounders.

3. Accuracy: This is a 5" Shoot-N-See target after a full 15 round mag rapid fire (about 1 shot per second):

As for the cons, I personally don't care about "pretty" pistols. Beauty is a s beauty does, as Forrest Gump would say. That goes for the trigger, too. The beauty is in the results.

Great gun for the price

Paid $289 for mine some years back at a gun show. Has been totally reliable. Not quite as accuare as my Sig's or Glock's, but at that price, it's accurate enough. Grip size fits me better than most double stacks.

My P95DC sometimes has a problem with reloads, it likes hotter loads. Other than that, all the problems with the P95 can be attributed to operator error. The weapon is definetly more accurate than I am. For that matter all of my guns are. A great gun for the money! I love to shoot it. Will have to practice an awful lot to hit a 5" target like Mr. Scott. I am impressed.

The P-95 and P-97 are excellent. The P-90 would be good/ verygood trigger was excellent accuracy was "WOW". The feel of the gun was so-so. p-944 is also a pretty good gun.
