Ruger P-Series Survey

Before the P95 came out, I honestly had a low opinion of Ruger semi-autos. In fact, the P89, P90, and other early models had the ergonomics of a brick IMO. Accuracy was just average too. But, the P95 and P97 have turned me around.

The P95 has excellent accuracy, very good trigger, and good ergonomics. I was impressed after renting this gun.

The P97 (I pick mine up tomorrow ;) )has excellent ergonomics and I can't wait to see if its as accurate as the P95. If so, I will be very happy.

Thus, my overall assessment of the Ruger P-series is that the newer polymer models are EXCELLENT quality pistols at a modest price. IMO, the P97 is just as comfortable in the hand than a Glock or Sig. I would be interested to see how they stack up against S&W pistols in these surveys (since before the P95 was released I considered S&W to be better pistols than Ruger). However, since the P95 came out, I think Rugers are far better than S&W.

I haven't owned but one S&W, and that was the 457. I can tell you that I love my Ruger P95 so much better than it. There's no way I'll get rid of this gun. Unless, of course, I die. Even then, I'd put up some sort of a fight!

We're very happy with our P95 house gun. One of the best things about it is that hi-caps are still available cheap (just bought 4 at $10 each). Lissen up all you folks paying $100 for a Glock or SIG hi-cap!

General likes include the trigger feel, balance, ease of maintenance and price.

Nit picks: The mag release is a bit awkward. The smooth polymer frame shows scratches and wear, I wish they'd textured it.

A friend has a P97. Shoots good, feels good, and hasn't malfunctioned in over 1300+ rounds. Great buy, you should be stoked.

What does stoked mean?

I own the P95 now and I go to buy the P97 tomorrow. I am impressed. I have owned a couple of S&W autos over the years but wasn't very impressed.

Ruger pistols are THE best VALUE on the market today. Stone cold reliable, durable, fairly lightweight, and (in my experience) has good customer service. Thumbs up for Ruger! Best, J. Parker

I am a very happy owner of a Ruger P-97. It is accurate, reliable, and looks good as far as Ruger pistols are concerned.

Ruger P95: 15 rounds, 15 yards, one ragged quarter size hole!!!!! I used to have the target that proved that statement, but my wife threw it out by accident, cleaning house. Oddly enough, I was using cheap foreign 9mm ball ammo when I did that. (S&B 115gr)
Only gripe: Too damn large for concealed carry here in AZ. It's the middle of friggin September, and we are STILL pushing 110 degrees!!!!!! The P95 is too bulky for pocket carry, and to big for comfortable IWB carry. No jackets here until November, or December, maybe!!!! That's what makes the Glock  26 soooooooo nice!!!

I have a P89 - bought Hogue grips for it - really made it feel like holding a 2X4 - I took them off immediately.

I used it to qualify for my CHL and used to carry it when I traveled. Been carrying the baby Glock (G26) lately, but still have a soft spot in my heart for the Ruger and like it's pre-ban 15 round capacity.

I have both the P-89 and the P-95. I like both of them very well. I actually like the trigger on the 89 a little better. My 89 has the houge grips and I think it feels great. With these grips and the extra ounces the 89 seems to have a somewhat lighter percieved recoil than my 95. The 95 is great too. It looks better. It is slightly more compact and lighter. Both are fantastic and the price can't be beat. Maybe, I will go buy a 97 now!?!

Hmm... been thru a P89, P91, P94s in both 9mm and .40, five P95s and a pair of P90s.

Good guns? You damn bethca!

Still, I like Glocks better and am curently without a single Ruger pistol in my inventory. I do still have a few factory 15 round 9mm mags laying around. :D

Bill Ruger & Co. is a Genius. His centerfire pistols are sleepers, only have one a 94 DC. Whose pistols come with a better trigger than that! The only down side I can see is their bulk but they're cast hence the bargin price. They sure didn't Blow it like "Simply Worthless" did when they brought out their poly-framed pistols!

As a suggestion, slip a hogue hand-all grip on either the 95 or 97 and it becomes a different gun. Very very sweet.

I personally like the P94 better. I think Glock makes a better Polymer. The handle on the P95 looks a bit fake. I don't know how to describe it, but it looks cheap. The P94, with a Hogue is awesome ergonomically, and looks great too!

I like the Rugers a lot, second on my list, below the Steyrs.

Quantum Singularity, the Ruger P series, including the P85 MKII and P90, are about the best buys out there. My P85 and P90 bricks have never hiccupped in over 10 years of use. I have had my venerated Sig P220 and Glock 30 refuse to feed 200 gr fmj rounds that my P90 ate with glee. Regards, Richard.

I own the P94 in 9mm, and couldn't be happier. I shoot this gun better than any of the Glocks, Beretta's and S&W autos I have fired.
