Rob,
Can't speak for the .40, my KP-94 is 9mm. The P-94 has proven itself to me to be a rugged, reliable pistol. The first time I had it at the range the slide failed to lock back a couple of times. Hasn't happened since. It feeds FMH, JHP, RNL, and LFP without any problems. It will even feed empty cases, I've tried it! The accuracy for me is not as good as my 1991A1. I think the pistol would shoot better, but I just can't seem to get used to the trigger. No trouble keeping everything in a 6" circle at 10 meters unsupported. Should be good enough for self defense. If you want a pistol that is going to fire every time you pull the trigger you can't go wrong with a Ruger. It's about as sleek and pretty as a boxcar, but it'll get the job done.
