Local gunshop has both the P-44 (.40 auto) for $459 or the GP-100 $419. I'm looking for home defense! Are either good? What about ammo for either??

Own two 4" stainless GP100's, so I must think they're good. I do. Both are capable of 4" at 100 yards, both deliver 180g JHP's at 1160fps or 140's at 1400fps. My wife shoots one well with no brain damage, and we can tell at a glance when they're safely unloaded (the cylinder swings OUT!). An ideal home/carry piece.

$419 sounds a mite high.

I think both prices are a bit on the high side. I just picked up a Glock Model 22 (.40S&W) for $499 with factory installed nite sites. I did check out the Ruger P94 but didn't like the trigger, it was $400 even but have seen them cheaper. I have seen the GP100 for $320. I have owned the GP100 but liked my S&W 686 better.
