Ruger not ejecting properly

Good afternoon,

I got a new Ruger M77 Mark II .223 for coyote. The rifle shoots great but it frequently will not eject the cartridge spent or unfired. It pulls the round from the chamber fine but when the bolt comes all the way back it only ejects about 25% of the time no matter how fast or slow i pull the bolt. If i push the bolt forward a hair and then pull it back again it ejects MOST of the time. Brand new gun and it has done this from day one. I have tried remington, federal and winchester ammo with same results.

Thanks

Probably a burr on the ejector keeping it form fully opening, or a rounded end that allows cartridge heads to ride over the ejector.

Ruger not ejecting properly

You might try removing bolt from rifle (unloaded, empty rifle that is) hold bolt with bolt face up, put a few drops of gun oil on the ejector and with a punch, screwdriver or other appropriate tool push it in several times and see if the oil didn't free its movement up.

And if this does not cure problem, send it back to Ruger or take to a good local gunsmith. Thats too nice a rifle to be problamatic, I have 2 Rugers, a semi- auto Ranch and a 77 MkII both in .223. The 77 will shoot rings around the Ranch Rifle but it too is fun to shoot and plink. Your 77 will do the number on coyotes when you get the problem fixed. Happy Hunting !!!
