I am looking at the ruger web site and it list the International/ RSI-1 as coming in 270 Weatherby mag. all the gun rags list it in 270.
I want the manlicher stock of the International but want something w/ more speed than the 30-06 or 270 win.
Like a 25-06 or 270 WM.
who is right the mags or the website?
I dont have a current catolog or I would look it up. thanks guys.

opusxx, the current catalog lists the #1 RSI in 270 Winchester. The #1 B does come in 270 Wby Mag though -- but that's the only one they list as chambered for that. Maybe you could rechamber??

I just looked at the webpage. That 20" should be in the column directly to the left. Just as a side note, I believe that every rifle that is chambered for a Weatherby cartridge has a 26" barrel. The RSI has a 20". That only makes me think it only comes in 270 Winchester.

Opusxx. I don't think you really want a #1 RSI in .270 Weatherby. First, with that short barrel, the muzzle blast will be deafing, and the flash from the shot like a bright ball of fire. Second, the velocity loss will be such, that you might as well have gotten a standard .270 Win. with a 22 or 24 inch barrel. Considering that short barrel, you'd probably be better off with the 30-06 first, and .270 second, at least where efficiency is concerned. The .30 cal. would have a better bore to case ratio than the .270.
As someone said, you can rechamber it to the Weatherby round, but I'll bet you serious money that any ethical gunsmith will try to talk you out of it.

i think i talked my self into the 243. I have two daughters that would be better suited firing a less stout rd. than the 270 or the 30-06.
the deer here,SC, and in lower Arkasas where I hunt would be easily taken w/ a 243.

The 243 is a good idea if your girls are going to shoot.

The 1A might be a better choice than the International. The 1A balances better and is easier to clean (under the wood) than the Int. I have several Ruger #1's and my wife likes the 1A a bunch. (She has several)

The 1A is lighter and handels well in any situation. The caliber selection is good. You might consider a 7X57. (I don"t know how big your kids are.)

You may also want to consider Brownings 1885 Low Wall. They are more expensive but are good guns.
