Just curious really, would a stainless new vaquero in .357 be worth a standard glock in 9mm?

Thanks for any help

Yes....it's a revolver, enough said. But then again, you may want to check with someone else, since I've always had a soft spot for revolvers.

One clueless young kid at the range who was shooting his 9MM Glock saw one of my revolvers the other day and said...'Dang man, isn't that one of them old cowboy guns?':p All these kids think they are "gangsta" with their 9MM Glocks that sound like "pop, pop, pop," but when you pull out a shinny 6 inch barrel revolver and go "BANG" all these kids stop shooting and stare in amazement. It's a lot of fun, you ought to try it once.

I think a new stainless Vaquero will fetch a little more than a new Glock 17 or 19 in my area.

It wouldn't be a horrible trade--not a rip-off or anything--but the guy ending up with the Glock would get the short end of it, in my opinion.

BUT, if the Glock came with night sights then things might swing the other way.

The cash value is about the same, give or take a bit due to local supply and demand. Myself, I dislike and have no use for GLocks and really enjoy and use Vaqueros, so, I would gladly trade any Glock in my posession for a Ruger SA.

It really depends on if you have a desire and a use for the new gun. Obviously, the Glock is better suited to self defense in today's society than the Ruger, at least in most people's opinion. However, one thing a Glock will never be is a .357 magnum revolver. SO, if you have your needs covered, and its just a matter of want, then why not?

Personally, I would never make the trade the other way, give up the Ruger for a Glock, but that's just me, and my personal situation.

Do you mean trade or sale value? If you mean the quality of the respective handgun then most Rugers are worth 1 1/2 glocks.

osallent, im one of those young kids who cant STAND my own generation for the reasons you listed.

I love my vaquero, just want to start doing some shooting competitions with my dad, and as far as I know its either Glock or 1911 for the league he is looking into.

Side note I also want a CC, and my vaquero is a bit big for my small frame..... Sadly.

Shotim, have you looked into getting a snubby in .38 special? I have a Smith & Wesson 642 as my CC weapon. I absolutely love it. I think you should be able to conceal most revolvers with a 3 inch barrel or shorter.

I personally have nothing against semi-auto pistols. I love the PPK and the Beretta 85fs, but these pistols are all metal. I have never warmed up to plastic pistols, specially plastic bricks like the Glock. They are reliable, but I personally find them ugly as sin. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As has been said, for a $$$ standpoint it is a fair trade.
Personally, unless I NEEDED the Glock for some reason such as a duty weapon for police or security work, I would go for the Ruger Even if civilian CCW was taken into account. But I am a bit of an odd duck that way.

OldBear, you are correct;

and I am a Glock-fan. I still appreciate the very substantial Ruger hand-guns. I don't have lots of money, but the Rugers, and the new modular XD- line are very intriguing. And Beretta has a feel, IMHO, similar to G- double-stacks. I've got too much invested in my G- collection to switch. But if it were only a case of "show me the money", I'd own the above-mentioned also. Dao.

I had a Vaq in .44 for a few years. Guy walks into the gunshop where I am countersurfing with two of them and wants to trade them in on a Glock. :rolleyes: Says the guy with, at the time, 4 Glocks.

Anyway, the shop man talked him out of it, said the most he could do was $150 each in trade value. I am very sad that I only had about $300 in my pocket, that meant I was only able to buy one of them for $200, which the guy was quite happy with. I should have never sold that gun, but I made money on the sale as you can imagine.

Last summer, I sold a large frame Vaquero that I had laying in the safe. I'd only shot it maybe 20 shots in 8 years, so I sold it.

I used the money I got from it to by a new Glock 23 from the local toy store.

I'd say it's a fair trade for same-condition guns.

It depends...on whether the Vaquero is new or used, and the glock new or used. Also depends on what model glock your looking at. If you strictly meant both used, if they, for example were 90-95% original, then I would say 1:1 trade. I am thinking that the Vaquero would probably holds its value better than the glock. I've seen used glocks going for 350-450. Used vaqueros from 425 to 500.

Good luck with your choice. BTW I have a Glock 27, used, maybe 100 rounds through it.:D
