Ruger New Blackhawk Cylinder Question.

I just got a Ruger New Blackhawk second-hand from someone and it had never been fired before. I traded a New Vaquero and I noticed on the Blackhawk that when the loading gate is open, the 'clicks' don't line up the cylinder with the extractor like it did on my New Vaquero. I have to click then turn a bit to line it up. Was the lining up only for the New Vaqueros or should my New Blackhawk do the same?

That's the nature of the beast. All New Model Blackhawks/Super Blackhawks are that way. Not so with the New Vaquero and the New Model Flat Tops.

If its much of a problem to you, check Brownell's catalog for a Free-Spin pawl. This is a simple remedy I think, though I've never used one myself. I just got used the the nature of the gun.

Incidentally, I still load the old way, even the New Models, leaving an empty chamber under the hammer. Actually, under the transfer bar.

I'll get used to it. First thing I'm getting is some wood grips, then possibly the 'half-cock' hammer I found somewhere online for the Ruger SA Revolvers.

Been shooting and enjoying new model Blackhawks for 30 years, and that's just the way they are made. I happen to like them.

If you want/need a gun that works like a Colt, BUY A COLT! or a clone.
Because if that's what you really want, get what makes you happy! Life's too short to waste being unhappy. And, if you are only planning on having one, get the one you really want, and don't worry about the price. You get more money with every paycheck, or at least, I do..

I've got a friend who has a safe full of colts (real colts and clones). He's kind of ...ehhh about rugers. I like the Rugers, and am kind of ..ehh about colts.

ITs your gun, and your money, but I just can't see trying to turn a ruger into a colt...he offered to sell me his Bisley today, would give me a great price...BUT all my single actions (10, currently) are new model Blackhawks, or Vaqueros (ok, a super single six and a new Vaquero also), and they all work the same way. Can't see changing to the colt operating system at this late date, not for me, anyway....
