Ruger MkIII or Ruger SR22?

I'm looking at buying a .22 and will be getting a MkIII Target or a SR22. I was wondering what people here have experienced with them.

ETA: It will just be used for target shooting at the range

It depends on your application.

If your interest is hitting nice little groups the MKIII is your man. Maybe you'd like to head out and shoot some rats, or take some other small game you'll appreciate the better accuracy of the III.

If your interest is just having fun at the range, and maybe carrying while fishing (that's what mine is for) then pick the SR22.

The Mk III is more accurate; the SR 22 is easier to clean, lighter, smaller overall.

Both have proven reliable for me.

As was mentioned, your intended use and what you want out of the pistol is the deciding factor.

If I were shooting paper targets for smallest group; Mark III.

If I'm shooting tin cans or golf balls (i.e. plinking and not caring to hit it every time)....SR22

Yes I agree with all of the comments in this thread.

I own two SR22Ps (yes, I like the gun that much)

And 7 Mark pistols (yes I like these guns that much)

The SR22P is surprisingly accurate for what it is. It is very very fun to shoot. If you ever take new shooters out shooting the SR22P is a real pleaser.

Ruger Mark pistols are simply a hoot. Beautiful precision all-steel guns that will last many lifetimes and very fun to shoot too.

For just target shooting at the range the MKIII hands down. I like my SR22 but my MKIII is easier to shoot accurately. Remove the magazine disconnect and the MKIII will have a much better trigger too. The MKIII comes with a scope base too if you eventually want to go really nuts target shooting. The SR22 is more of a working gun and a good trainer but it is no target gun.

Depends upon what trigger you are training for..... the MkIII in the .22/45 version with the mag disconnect fixed makes a fine understuddy for a 1911 ....

I would either find a used MK II, or get a MK III, and remove the LCI, and magazine disconnect. There are instructions on the net, and with a few small parts, you can get a pistol that is close to a MK II. Nothing wrong with the SR22, but that is more of a plinker.

A word about the SR22. My budy has one, and it is more accurate than I expected it to be. Not sure if it is as accurate as a Mark III, but you won't be giving up much by going for the SR22, except sight radius.

Still, I like the mark III better. I enjoy bullseye shooting and the mark III seems better suited for that.

My plan was to buy a MkIII, but that was only because finding a used MkII here in Anchorage was difficult. Finally landed one though and I've been happy ever since.

I've shot both the mk2 and the mk3, and couldn't really tell the difference between the triggers - though I'm not generally all that picky when it comes to triggers.

Neither the LCI nor the mag disconnect bother me on a target pistol. I wouldn't seek them out, but I can't say that I really notice them at all.

I think most of the difference is internet hype and perception, and I wouldn't hesitate buying another mk3.
Less of a crap shoot than buying used imho.
