Ruger MKII standard/target interconversion

Hi, all,

Is it possible to convert between a Ruger MKII target model and a standard model, or the opposite way? What parts would need to be changed?

Thanx,

I may be wrong, but I think the principal differences between those two guns are grips (cosmetic), sights, and barrel length. You could put the receiver from one on the grip/trigger assembly of the other. (I used to have a Target Competition. The quality of fit/finish didn't seem all that different; it was pretty good in either case.)

It would probably be cheaper to buy a used version of either than to upgrade or downgrade to the other.

You are correct, sir.

The only difference I notice between my Gov. Model 6-7/8 Target model and other Mk II's is the barrel.

For your standard frame, you can buy upgraded barrels, trigger components and other parts from:

Volquartsen

Power Custom

both have web sites.

Their upgrade parts usually come with installation instructions. Be aware that these components are pricey.

Regards.

Unfortunately, I live in PRNJ , so price isn't what's driving me to ask the question. Buying handguns here is a major hassle, so I'd like to get the maximum benefit from owning the minimum number.

If you have or can get the target version, I prefer the 5.5" bull barrel, there is little need for a standard model with skinny wobbly barrel, fixed sights, and tougher trigger pull.

I think they should interchange. My brother and I were goofing around once and tried his longer stainless barrel on my blued frame and vice versa just to see what they would look like.
