Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to hear some opinions on the Ruger MKII .22LR pistol with a 10" barrel. How does it feel for you? Does it balance well? Would it be good for general target shooting ?

Thanks,

ASG

I have held one, never fired one. IMHO, any barrel that long is a mistake unless it can be used as a carbine with a shoulder stock. With iron sights, the long barrel magnifies every movement and even shooting two-handed tends to tire the shooter much more than a shorter barrel.

I have an 8" Ruger 22/45 and it IS hard to hold steady one handed. Even two-hand hold is difficult with a red dot scope, the dot is all over the place. With a rest of any sort though it works just fine. If I decide to do Bulleye competition I will get the 5.5" bull barrel or maybe get mine cut down (depending on cost).

Stay away from the 10",stick with the 5.5" or 6 7/8 at the most.
The difference isn't worth the weight!!!

Slightly OT: a Ruger Mk.II with a shoulder stock would rock. :D

I've been thinking of making a stock for mine, when I get some spare time this summer. Only question is, what would the ATF ( :barf: ) think about this? Should I go turn myself in for just thinking of manufacturing an NFA weapon or something?

Ruger MKII 10-Inch Barrel

I must be the "od ball" because I would love to have AN EXTRA BARREL in 10 inches. A few years ago I fired a magazine through a 10 inch barrel. I loved it. Like I said, if it were not THE NUMBERED FRAME I would try to find a 10 inch as a spare.

Let's put it this way:

I've been thinking of getting my 6 7/8" barrel cut down to 5.

Anyone know how much a smith would charge to lop off 1 7/8" and then recrown and install the sight?

Hey Shmackey,

I've got a hack saw and a file. I'll do the job for $50, you pay shipping. . . .

I received my blued Ruger MK II pistol with 10" bull barrel for Christmas about 10 years ago. Sentimental value aside, I would not trade this pistol for anything. Personally, I feel that the weapon balances nicely and is extremely accurate. Just my $.02 worth. Like anything, personal preference. Try before you buy.

Hi, Meowhead,

What will BATF think? Nothing at all, as long as you file the application to make a short barrel rifle and your $200 check doesn't bounce. Rumor to the contrary, BATF has no problems with people who obey the law and play by the rules.

Go to www.atf.treas.gov for more information. Don't forget to check your state laws.
