Ruger Mk II grips

Is it possible to order a Ruger Competition's side grips and install it on another kind of Mk II (ie a KMK-512)? Also, what grips do you people prefer in general? I'm not happy with the standard KMK-512 grips...

From what I understand, yes, you can do that.

I have the competition model and the grips are better, but not that great. At the very least, you should look a the Volquartsens.

I'm getting a set of Fung match grips for mine.

What is that? Could you provide a link (if possible) so that I can take a look at the grips you are referring to?

Yes All MkII's grips are interchangable . I have several grip for my mark II wood Houge wrap around and my Favorite, the Volquartsen!!!!

I found the Pearce wrap-around grips with finger grooves to be a big improvement over the Target Competition grips.

I tried the Voltquartsen grips, and found the angle awkward and they didn't fit my hand (which is medium to large) well.

Try the Pearce. (They even make them for lefties.) If they don't work, you're only out about $16-$17 dollars, and can probably sell them to another MK II shooter.

Quick Q???

Do those grips block the takedown lever on the back of the grip though? It would be a pain to take the grips off everytime it was field stripped.

The Fung grips do not block the lever. They're also made specifically for your hand, thanks to the photocopy you send Randall. They also have an adjustable palm shelf.

If the question was about the Pearce grips...

No, they wraparound the front strap but leave the back exposed. Takedown is just the ordinary hassle it always is -- nothing worse. <grin>

I got mine from Dillon. Quick turnaround.

(I just jumped out to the Pearce website, and they no longer show RUGER grips. Dillon doesn't have them in their catalog, either. You may have to do a little searching to find them.)

I traded the gun for a .45 last year, and don't have any pictures. Sorry.

Ok, so are there any grips that look nice AND provide ergonomic support. So far, all the ergonomically ones are ugly, but the nice looking wood ones don't improve ergonomics. Is there any grips out there that do both to some degree?

I recommend starting with the competition models, or any other wood grip with a thumb rest. Lots of nice ones out there. Then if you change your mind down the line, and feel like going with the ugly ergonomic ones, you won't have spent too much money. :)

Fung Fung Fung!

^I'm sure the Fungs are top notch quality, but they destroy the Luger-like lines of the Mk II. I can't stand the look of the bottom part--thats ugly. I guess for now I'll just go with the pretty wood grip panels and worry about ergomics later down the road.

Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions. :)
