Ruger Mini44

I was at one of the local ranges today, and they had just received 3 of the new Ruger SA in 44 mag. Got to handle one fresh from the shipping box, but didn't shoot it. Has anyone had a chance to fire one yet? On first look it might make a good rifle for the truck.

Are they they like the MIni 14 design. I saw post on here a couple months ago about someone asking if it was true they were coming out them. Did they have the usual 5rd Mags with them?

Yes, design is similar to the Mini 14. Didn't spend too much time looking at it, as I had a Glock 19 I was picking up. Seems a little lighter than my SS Ranch rifle - didn't seem as solidly built, either. Similar action, with the bolt lock plunger on right rear of receiver. Yep, itty bitty 5 round magazine :( that was hard to insert (never had this problem with my Ranch). Might be a problem if your looking for a rifle that is a quick reload. Thin barrel. Not currently available in SS with composite stock - don't know if it will be in the near future. Selling price is about $570 here in SoCal.

I won't buy any Ruger products any more, much as I like their firearms. Bill Ruger is a traitor to the RKBA cause.[/quote]

Give me a break. You know, S&W sold out big time and bragged about it. I'd like to know what your beef is with Ruger. Please post in General or Political forums. Listen, I'm all for a boycot or taking my business elsewhere but I don't think this one is the least bit justified. Don't buy them if you don't want to, but it's a nit-picky point. Even John Browning gave us the stupid magazine safety on the Hi-Power in his old age.

As for the orig. post, The new 44 Carbine has a 4 round magazine that is interchangeable with their Lever action gun. The only fault I found with the rifle was that the magazine is a bit difficult to lock in and remove. I have the same problem with the 10/22 but it's much more difficult and finicky with the 44. It's definitely built strong and is much easier to mount a scope to than the old 44 carbine.

God made us in his own image.
Thomas Jefferson made us free.
John Browning made us equal.

Without Browning, we might not know about the other two...

Hmmmm, you know, GW Bush has the same platform as Ruger.

I picked up one of these rifles last night. I'd tried to buy one on Tues. night, but the store only had one left, and some guy put money down on it an hour before I got to the store.

I swapped a Kimber Royal Carry for it, even trade. I already have a Kimber CDP, so I won't miss the Royal much.

I like the Ruger.., very light, as noted above, short and handy. It's very similar to the Mini-14, with its flat-top bolt and plastic upper handguard. Didn't have any problem with dropping the mag, once I figured out to drop it straight down, instead of at an angle.

I think it's a great little carbine, plenty powerful enough for whitetails, in the heavy woods of the Southeast.

Haven't been able to shoot it yet. It was dark last night, by the time I got home from my 150 mile trip to get the rifle..., and it's raining pretty heavy now.., but I'll get a few shot out of it pretty soon, and tell how it shoots.
