Ruger Mini 14

In 1999 I bought a Ruger Mini-14 ranch rifle synthetic stock with stainless steel action and barrel. I bought it in anticipation of that Y2K thing.

But after words, I found, that I really love plinking with that rifle.

A while back I asked the forum about a quick aquisition non-optical sight that I could buy to replace the cheap flip up sight that comes with the rifle. I am interested in sub 100 yard accuracy within a few inches. All I got was red dot sugestions.

Perhaps someone out there knows of a peep sight that I can buy to replace the standard flip up sight.

Appreciate any comments. I don't think it is worth scoping a Mini-14 for quick shots. I guess I want the equivalent of an M1 carbine in my .223 Mini-14.

Comments and suggestions will be welcome.

I haven't a clue, but if some knowledgeable soul sez an original Mini-14 sight can be fitted, I probably have one in my wild animal box...

Ashley makes one, just as you describe. There's a picture of it in my catalog (hard copy - pg. 8), so you can probably see it online ---> http://www.ashleyoutdoors.com .

Don't think it's possible to fit a -14 style sight. Some of the base looks integral to the receiver.

Williams Gunsight Co. makes the WGRS receiver sight for the ranch rifle and mini 30. It is adjustable for windage and elevation. You can order it from Williams 800-530-9028 or from Brownells 641-623-4000.

b_d_b, just flip the sight that came on your Mini-14 up and down around 20 or so times and then you'll be forced to buy a good sight for it. That has to be one of the worst designed and fragile sights Ruger has ever come up with.

I put a Williams on my Mini-14 and it works well. I can't say adjustments are that easy with it, mostly due to the ramp it has to mount on. But on the other hand, you usually don't have to adjust them very often after sighting-in. (That is if a Mini-14 is ever truly "sighted-in", I mean how can you tell? :) )

You might want to check with Brownells(sp?)...they used to carry a removable peep sight that used the rear Ruger scope mount cut out as its mounting point...

Does anyone have any experience with the scout rail for the mini? It replaces the stock handguard and has a picatinny rail on top for optics. Seems like and interesting concept but I am curious how secure the mount is.
