Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle Quick Sight

I bought a Ruger stainless synthetic stock Mini-14 ranch rifle a year back and it remains sightless. I want a quick aquisition 100 yard site that will either replace the flip up sight that comes with the rifle, or something that accomodates the standard scope rings that come with this rifle.

This has been a debate for a year and I welcome opinions.

Almost any sight that you pick will be more accurate than your Mini. For shooting out to 100 yds. (yep, I know I'm being optimistic), I'd recommend a 10 m.o.a. red dot.

Gee Walt, you didnt even mention the boat anchor thing. You must be getting soft on us..:)

I agree with Walt, get a red dot.

BDB,

I put a Leupold Gilmore red dot on my Ranch rifle and I love it. It is the one inch model with the 2 moa dot and it will fit in the rings that come with the gun. http://www.bearbasin.com has them for $159, I think. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I have heard stories about the poor accuracy of the Mini-14 because of the thin barrel. Yet it is reliable, and I have only really used it for sub-100 yard plinking. It was soo much cheaper than an Colt M-16 semi-auto, but now my dealer has one for $969 and I am thinking of trading the Mini-14 in on it.

I know I will get raped on the trade in but I think for abou $600 I will have a much better .223 carbine.

Comments??

Be smart Brad, keep your mini and build your own AR. I did a pretty good job on my two and I'm barely checked out on a hammer. You can also buy parts kit and reciever separately over time to spread out the cost. Now is not the time in this country to be selling any quality firearm.

Thanks Alex49

Thanks Alex, I probably could not trade the Mini-14 in anyway. I like it too much. I will check around about building an AR, never thought about that, might be fun. I have a friend at work that probably can help me out. Heck he has .50 cal ma deuce.

He adviced me when I bought the Mini-14 to save and get an AR but at least I have a nice reliable .223 rifle and not a wish. I actualy picked up the Mini-14 before prices went up - For the price of a Glock I got a real firearm (I love my Glocks, just no substitute for a high powered rifle.)
