Ruger Mark Pistol Owners

Hey you Ruger Mark pistol owners. Let's see what you are shooting. Ruger Mark I, II, III or 22/45's. I'll start first.

Ruger Mark II Government Model

KMK512, looks like yours except stainless. Mark II, Pachmayr grips. Bought it new in 1994. Never disappoints. Ever.

Ruger

I, also, have a Ruger Mk.II Gov't.....I had the barrel shortened to five and a half inches.
At one time it looked like this:

I changed the innards with a Volquartsen trigger kit. I was experimenting with a barrel weight.....that fitting, drilled and tapped for a set screw.
The gun was returned to iron sights and no weight sometime after.

SGW,

How do you post a photo? I have a Gov Mod just like yours, it was my Father's favorite, very nice.

My current favorite as I just picked up this MKII last month and it's still fresh to me. So far, it's digested everything I've thrown at it.

My other MKIIs next to my SS.

My 22/45 Mk III Target looks just like all of them since it appears bone stock. The darn thing made me want a real 1911 to go with it. I got a Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical in 9mm and they are remarkably similar when I shoot them (except for the 9mm recoil).

This one is a ton of fun, though I'm having a repetitive problem with the sights shifting zero that is annoying.

MKII Target 512 - Safe queen until I replaced the ejector with a Volquartsen Exact Edge ejector. With a set of Ruger thumbrest grips & an Idaho holster, it's a nice, accurate, reliable .22 rig. Shoots so well that Wifey decided it was hers.

The two 678's have original Ruger roll marked muzzle brakes, but only one is installed in this picture. The bottom one has had the finish stripped for some reason, and was left behind in plain sight on a kitchen table in a rental unit a bunch of doper hippies were renting. LE ran the s/n and nothing came up, so it's mine now. These are all MKI's or pre-MKI's.

Ruger Mark III 5.5" Target 60th Anniversary.

I've ditched the troublesome loaded chamber indicator and mag disconnect and installed a Volquarsten trigger.

(Not mine but one just like it):

I do like the fact that the Government Model has the added benefit of having a "heat-treated" chamber, at least in terms of offering an enhanced (if esoteric) accuracy advantage. I've owned several Mark models and they have all proven to be accurate and reliable. The only downside has been the less than ideal trigger pulls some variants have evidenced and that debatable liability usually only negatively affects serious Bullseye competitors.

Got a geriatric "Standard" bought in the pre number prefix days and it has been going steady for the last 51 years now. There is definitely some loss of finish, but, hey!, I lost my hair as I got old, so what do you expect?:D:D

Edit: I did replace the recoil spring mechanism in the 80s. (Also had to give the grip frame a slight tweak, as it was starting to shoot loose and spread at the top.)

I never liked the feel of the standard Mk Series pistols,,,

I never liked the feel of the standard Mk Series pistols,,,
But I fell absolutely in love with the 22/45 series.

So much so that I bought a matching pair,,,
Then cased them like dueling pistols.

I think the slab-side Rugers are simply elegant.

These two pistols have more inherent accuracy than I can ever use.

Way back when, '88 or '89 or so, I'd finally scraped enough together to get my first handgun. I'd ordered a Taurus Model 66, your basic 4" .357 six shooter, from a recommended gunmonger.

When I went to pick it up, they also had a Ruger Mark II Target, stainless, 6" barrel for the exact same price. When I held it, it felt "perfect". I still, to this day, regret not getting that instead.

Fast forward, Fall of 2007 I wheeled and dealed at a gun show, and got the same thing in blue, somewhat neglected by a prior owner, for $25 plus a Makarov I'd paid $100 for.
