Ruger Mark III "Canted" Front Sight

I just came across a Mark III Target Stainless with a Hi Viz fiber optic front sight. The gun shoots right. Upon closer inspection the rear sight windage is all the way left and it appears the front sight is canted to the left of center. The rear sight is a V shape blade inside the adjustable target sight. I am thinking four possibilities

1) I read somewhere that there were a bad run of Hi Viz sights. I have contacted Hi Viz to see what they think

2) Upon removing the front sight it appears the front sight tapped hole is also canted to the left. Is that normal? Is that hole supposed to be perfect down the center line.

3) The V notch is a difficult sight picture with everything off center. Thinking a square notch blade may be easier to use if off center.

4) Also thinking of just picking up the normal target front sight to see if it installs more down the center line.

Thoughts. Thanks.

Go with a replacement sight of your choice.

The mounting hole should be centered and not canted. If you can get a new blade for your rear sight with the standard squared off center cut. I find it more accurate than the V shaped notch.

Ruger sells replacement sight. Both Target and Hi Vis types.

I will call Ruger. For $20 I can try a new front sight and get a square notch rear blade. And if that does not fix it and it probably will not if the front sight tapped hole is off center, I can drift the rear sight and setup the sight line down the left side of the gun.

Or this may be my "opportunity" to use the scope mounting hardware that came with it and do something non-traditional.

It shouldn't be all that difficult to drill and tap a new hole for the front sight, but this time at "top-dead-center", and then remount the front sight.

I do not see how to do this given the new hole would overlap with the old hole. Of course you could go forward or backward relative to where the hole is at now. I guess I would come towards the rear sight making the sight radius slightly less, yes?

Ruger screwed up. I think if you ask they will swap out the pistol. The front sight was drilled improperly. That would bother me for ever. I theory they could replace the barrel. My guess, it is cheaper for Ruger to just give you another gun.

Any chance the barrel was installed at a cant when someone reassembled it? If it fits loosely this could be possible, and easy to fix. Compare the ejection port location with another MKIII, you should be able to tell. Good luck.

The trouble with trying to correct it by fudging around a sight installation error is it doesn't necessarily take natural point of aim into consideration.
And that is what really makes for accuracy, especially with a pistol.

I just picked it up used. You think Ruger would support that? I have the original receipt from 2 years ago.

I doubt they will even ask;)

The thing is, does it look like someone messed with it or does it appear "original"??

If it has been
Bubbaed then it's not Rugers responsibility

It's clean and stock. Ruger said send it in. I can either get a Fed Ex label from them or take it to a Ruger dealer for shipment. And you are right, they did not even ask :).

Have them send a shipping label to you house or work (if you can) then it is returned to the same place. No driving around. Just have to have someone sign for it.

Ruger is sending a new gun. They were not interested in trouble shooting over the phone. The said send it in and now my dealer is waiting for them to send a new gun. I gotta say I am impressed with Ruger's williness to fix this flaw given the gun is about two years old and the original owner never called them on it.

Like I said. Ruger customer service is the best. It would be cool to get a Mk IV. :)
