Ruger M77 Mark II VLE - heavy bbl

I just bought a Ruger M77 Mark II VLE and need much taller scope rings. This thing has the real fat heavy bbl and I can only squeeze a 40mm objective lens scope on the rings that came with it.

I'm hoping to put a 50mm objective lens scope on it. RUGER says their "new model" high rings (at $74) SHOULD accomodate a 50mm scope. "SHOULD" just doesn't cut it. I working the local gun shops this afternoon to see if I can "try some on"

Anybody faced a similar problem before?
For those of you with HB rifles, what size objective lenses do you like?
Any good scope deals out there?
 
VLE?? Thought that was a Remington designation???

Anyway----give Ruger a call----I'm pretty sure they'll trade out the scope rings for the ones you need.
 
Ruger will usually trade them out for you....i had the same thing happen on a Target/Grey model and called them up and they sent me a pair of high rings with a return box for the medium ones. The high ones should fit a 50MM no problem.
