Ruger M77 Hawkeye Tactical Rifle Comments

I been looking for a good, long range target rifle in a .308 and came across this one on the Ruger catalog. It retails for about $1150. Does anyone have an experience with this rifle? Its got a 20 heavy barrel and even a bipod. Thanks.

I haven't shot that one but the M77's I have shot had horrible (to me atleast) triggers. I have the Rem 700 SPS tac with 20" barrel and love it. If you want to spend that much I'd look at the Tikka 308 tac or varmint, can't remember which, or the Savage or Rem.

You might want to check out the Savage mdl 10PC, similar configuration but I paid $700. for one not to long ago.

I have a Hawkeye in 300 Win. Mag and it is very good.

The barrel is great and I am getting great velocity and groups at this point.

I have hunted with the rifle for two years, but have not finished my testing as other stuff got in the way.

This Fall I did finish up some test loads I had, and shot a 3 shot group just over 5/8" and at a velocity of over 3300FPS with a load of 7828 behind a 165gr Nosler Partition.

The trigger is good. Possibly could be tuned a bit, but it is good.

Not as smooth as some in the action department, but all in all I'd give it ++++.
