Ruger M77 Gunsite Scout Rifle

I recently sold my black Gunsite rifle to buy a stainless version. I have plans to mount a titanium suppressor on it soon and the stainless matches the suppressor better. This the only centerfire rifle I currently own. I really like these Gunsite rifles but I never got a chance to shoot the black one nor the stainless one yet  They offered everything I wanted in a rifle: bolt action, good open sights, detachable magazines, suppressor-ready muzzle, and cool looks.

I think the stainless rifle will look awesome with this suppressor installed. Hopefully I'll get the paperwork started early next year.

Has anyone shot one a lot? Is it as nice at the range as it feels at home?

Nice photos, J.D. I've been jonesing for a GSR for a year or so, having only come lately to the .308 Win cartridge. Even here in humid Louisiana I don't have problem with my guns rusting, but I admit I'm torn between ordering the black version and ordering the stainless. I like my stainless handguns, but somehow my tastes run more toward blued or parked rifles.

Beautiful pictures! I went with the Matte finish as it suits me and my wallet better. Any optics planned?

I cant wait to shoot mine!

Thanks

I wasn't too concerned with corrosion on the black model, I just thought the matte grey stainless would look better with the matte grey titanium suppressor. I do like stainless when it's available though. The more I handle the stainless version the more I prefer it to the black one though. I think overall it looks better (just my opinion) and a balances a little better with the 18" barrel opposed to the 16.5" barrel on the black rifle. I like the contrasting look of black parts on the grey finish too. When I look at the photos of the black one now it seems a little too short to me.

I don't currently have any plans for optics on it. I mounted a Leupold M8 2X EER scope just to see how it felt. A scope in the scout position, even a small one like the M8, really throws off the balance of the rifle for me. I think I'll stick with iron sights or perhaps mount a scope in the traditional position, the only drawback there being that I'd need to remove the rear sight. I'm not nuts about the look of the full-length rail that XS Sights makes for this rifle.

stop it

I've been a fan of Scouts for a long time and am constantly hearing the siren song of the new GSR. The Savage Scout I bought 10 yrs or so ago looks like a clunker next to the Ruger.

Very nice.

Sorry...

but I have to post photos of new guns I get. Most of my gun purchases are due to someone else posting photos of that same gun after they buy it. Then I just have to get one. I'm just paying it forward and keeping the wheels in motion :D

So...you owned the black one and never shot it??? And, now you have the stainless and still have yet to shoot it?
Hmmm....

Not to sound snippy but I'm not clear on your question or point you're trying to make.

Since I purchased these rifles I've only had access to a 75-foot, indoor range. I just don't see the point in shooting a rifle like this under those conditions. However, yesterday I discovered an outdoor area at which I might be able to break this one in. I shot some suppressed rimfire stuff there yesterday and might get a chance to take this rifle there tomorrow. If I do I'll try to take some video or at least report back on its performance.

Video

I actually got to shoot this thing today, FINALLY, and it did not disappoint. I only shot eight rounds through it though; three rounds just to see what it was doing and five rounds for the video. We were primarily out there to shoot videos of my suppressed stuff and after doing all that we were getting tired. It was fun to shoot a centerfire after all the rimfire stuff though.

You can see the video here.

Thanks to my lovely wife for assisting me today.

And of course some photos. The target was shot at about 100 paces which should be about 150 feet for me. I didn't feel like walking the target out farther. No adjustments were made to the sights. The three low shots were from rapidly shooting the last magazine. I'm anxious to seriously shoot this rifle and see what it can do.

Sadly, she did not actually shoot it.

Great pics, and I really like the concept of the rifle. But, I can't get over the fact that it's a Hawkeye at heart.

Ruger lost me, when they lowered their standards for the Hawkeye and dropped the Mk II. On top of already being disappointed by the sloppy tolerances and low-grade finishes on the rifles, I actually cut myself on the actions of 2 Hawkeyes I was inspecting a few years back. That didn't help their cause very much.

Effin show her off some more!!!!!! GUN ****!!!!!!!! Oh ya....the rifle is nice too.....

I am checking this for more updates.......

Seriously........more pictures...... That GSR is bad ass....there is a top of the line suppressor maker here in Cheyenne. Thunder beast arms. Should look them up.

You could have you and your wife be the models for them!
