okay say you have just went out and bought a Ruger M77 chambered in .357mag. Handloading a spizter type bullet, could you get results out to 250yds or am I just wishful posting.

Thanks
Bubba

It depends on which results you're looking for. I'd bet that Hornady's Leverevolution ammo would fly 250 yards, but at what angle the bullet might strike would be open to claim. They're claiming 1850 fps muzzle velocity and it's down to 1272 at 100 yards, only carrying 1143 ft-lbs of energy. I'd bet that it is going into its terminal dive somewhere between 150-200 yards. Sure, it would punch a hole in paper, and if that's the result you're looking for then you're golden. I wouldn't try to punch a hole in meat at that range.

The .357 magnum is extremely capable within it's limitations. It's a pretty good 100 yard cartridge, but pushing out beyond that is stretching your luck.
