Ruger LCRx Bird in the hand

Yes, it's light as a feather, but that's not what the topic is about!:p

Been looking to get a LCRx. (CCW)
Shopped all the auctions, and private sales forums, and got an idea of going price range.
Walked into my local gun shop to see if they had one to try in my pocket and to try the legendary trigger.
Lo and behold they had an LCRx, the one I've been considering. Asked if I could dry fire and wow, what a great trigger. Smooth as butter, light and nice single action break as well. Returned the gun and left, thinking I might have to get one cheaper online or privately, as the gun shop was about 75.00 over priced.

But my wife said, Get it. If you tried the trigger and get one sight unseen with a worst trigger, you will always regret not having paid that little extra to get what you want. She knows me! And she said,
"if you go back to that shop, don't come back saying you only looked at it again. Buy it!" So I did!

So the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I rather pay a little extra for one that I physically tried the trigger on, than to gamble and get one sight unseen and end up with a worst trigger.

Anyways, by the time I added all the extra costs of shipping, my dealers cost, the transfer fees, I would have saved maybe 50.00

So in 7 days I will have the bird in my hand!
Anyone else have this as their rule in purchasing. We always want to save mula, but if you are planning on carrying and owning the gun for years, why not pay a little extra?

Besides which I felt better about helping my friends gun shop and they were very happy about the sale.:D

I always say if the stars line up then it was meant to be. U were meant to have that gun at that time. N I totally agree with ur wife, u married a smart woman!

I had something like that happen to me when I was looking to buy a 357. I was caught between a gp100 and a S&W 686. I read up on everything I could about the two guns. I went to a range that had them to rent, so I could get a fill for them.

I picked the gp100 but still liked both and would be happy with either one but something about the gp100 gave me a warm fuzzy. Now the problem was finding one. Most of my guns, I get from Bass pro or some other store. I know I could probably find a better deal somewhere else but that is just how it aeems to work for me.

So for almost a yr I kept an eye open for a gp100 at the stores I visited. I was told they couldnt order the gp100 or the 686 because the companies werent taking anymore orders because they were so backed up.

One day I walk in and there is a S&W 686. I had the money in my pocket and I really had to fight myself to wait for a gp100 but I was like, nah I'll wait and see even tho that smith was right there asking to go home with me that day.

A few days pass and its still on my mind, I keep saying to myself I should have just got that smith. It was right in my hands. So after a few days of talking to myself and staying up late thinking about how long I have waited to even see one of the guns I wanted in the store. I said the heck with it I going to buy the smith.

I get up and go to my dental appointment ( which happens to be right across the street from the basspro) I walk up to the guy and say, Ill take that 686 I was looking at the other day. His reply was man we just sold it 30mins ago. Dude, I was kicking myself all.the way home that day. I was mad at myself because I didnt know how long ai would have to wait to see it again.

About two weeks later, I go to gwt some reloading stuff and as always I srop n look at the guns and there she was. The Ruger GP100 with the 4" barrel. The very one I wanted. Lol I wouldnt even let anyone near that case until I was being helped. She came home with me that day and we have been to the range every weekend since. Needless to say I am happy the smith didnt play out because I ended up getting what I really wanted. To me, this gp100 is the best gun ever! She still brngs a smile to my face.

Sorry for being so long but Im happy you got what you really wanted bro. Hope you enjoy your new gun. Have fun and be safe!

Great stories. With all the complaints you read about lately with poor quality control, it is worth right much to be able to judge the fit and finish, trigger, lockup, barrel cant, cylinder gap, etc. *before* the purchase.

I had contact Ruger Firearms to ask them a technical question, and the tech said that the trigger pull allowed for double action could be anywhere from 6 to 11 pounds and the single action from 3 to 6 pounds.

So knowing this, I knew that there would be a chance with my luck to end up with a 6 pound singe action and 11 pound double action!:D

The one I tried felt more like 3/6
And for a light weight double action, the trigger feel is paramount!

I too think you made the right choice. The way things are now you might consider $50 as two boxes of ammo...not enough IMhO to hold up the deal. Plus, like you said, you helped the local economy.

But seven days until you get it? Frustrating! Where do you live?

... or you may have spent $50 less and got a gun with an even better trigger! :D

Congrats on the new revo... a year from now you won't miss the $50.

CALI-FONY-A!
It actually a ten day wait, but bought the gun on Wednesday and pickup next Saturday. Even with a concealed license and guns already on the permit, we have to abide by the ten day "cooling off" period.
Stupid, I know!

I am sure you are going to really like that LCRx. I had one and traded it to an elderly widow friend of mine who wanted something that fit her hand better than her husband's Ruger 357 Blackhawk. I then went out a couple months later and bought another one (both are in .38spl) for my wife's bedside. I like the LCRx a lot. Next I will get Crimson Trace laser grips for both of them.

I don't shop at local shops much, but if they have the gun I want to try and I try it there they get my business. I had my wife try a P22 at Cabelas the other day and she liked it better than the SR22 she handled a week before. If they had one without a laset I would have bought it there. If she liked the SR22 more I would have gone back to the original shop. The fact that neither had both in stock for her to try side by side was disappointing. I'm not trying it out on their dime then buying somewhere else.

That's a good policy in general, but I view the big box stores as "just looking" even if they have something I like. Case in point, I was at my LGS today and they had a GP100 for $575. The same gun at Cabela's is $699. I just would never buy a gun from Cabelas, Gander, Bass, etc. just because I happened to see it there first.

My brother bought one that had a pretty heavy trigger (probably on the upper end) he sent it back to the factory and they got it lightened some but I have still felt LCRs with better triggers even after the fix.

I think you did good. My brother got his online and got a heavy trigger. If you find one you like and can afford get it. Its worth the extra cost. Not to mention you don't have a few days of waiting for the shipping.

I emailed Ruger regarding the range of the DA trigger pull on their LCR .357, and was told "8 lbs min - 14 lbs max."

Women are better shoppers than men, and you were wise to take your wife's advice. Being able to try it in person is worth a lot.

I have an LCR-X in 38 Special... I've not measured the trigger pull but it's very decent...

I'm now wanting one in 22 Mag... anyone heard if they'll make an LCR-X in 22 Mag, or am I going to have to settle for a standard LCR hammerless ???
