Ruger KP95?

Anyone have one of these or used one? I believe its clip is interchangeable with the ruger's 9mm carbine, which would be a bonus, since I just bought one. I currently have a Hi-Point C-9 comp, but I want something with a bit more quality behind it (that doesn't look quite as weird.

The Hi-Point was good to start with, but I'm ready to step up to something better. Thanks in advance for your info.

Definite step in the right direction. If you like the way it feels and shoots, there is nothing wrong with a Ruger P series auto.

PS

The Hi-Point actually looks kind of cool. :D

I've tried many 9mm semiautos for plates and IDPA. I basically settled for the P95 for all of my 9mm shooting. The mags exchange between all Ruger 9mms, they are inexpensive and readily avaliable. I have never had a jam in any of my P95s. I always take two of them to a shoot incase one breaks down, but I have never needed the second one. I have had Berettas, Taurus' CZ, Browning Hi Powers, EAA/Tanfoglios and a P08 Luger. I like the P95 the best.

accuracy help please

I have a KP95, and I struggle with accuracy with the gun. I have heard many people rave about the accuracy of the KP95, so I know the gun in general is great. Plus, the reliability of the gun is excellent.

I took the CCW course required in Michigan, and had good shooting instruction. I never have been able to shoot real well with it, though. I'm wondering if any of the KP95 fans have suggestions? Should I try sending it back to the factory to have it looked at? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A step in the right direction

I have not personally had any experience with the Ruger's, but for the most part, I have heard from other shooters and watching others on the line, they appear to be very reliable and durable. I have also read some good things about them and I have contemplated the purchase of the p95 or p90 before, but have a few others I would rather have before that one.
I think you are on the right track stepping up to something else as soon as possible.
I think Ruger's are a very good value, but I do have some political differences with them.
Look at a few different ones and see what ya like. If and when ya can swing another $200 bucks, it will really open things up to several other handguns, but if ya like the Ruger and are ok with the company, then I would say go for it. Everyone no matter what it is, makes a lemon once in a while, but from what I know Ruger makes some pistols ya can tote with confindence. I would not hesitate to carry one if I had to change to them for some reason. ( After checking it out with a few hundred rounds first, as I would any weapon.)
I myself tote a Beretta 92 and find that I can conceal it rather well with proper dress and holster, but that is what I am used to carrying and used to carry back when in le. I would strongly recommend Beretta, Sig and many others including Ruger.
Just keep it simple, which can be tough to do sometime.

Dude, Darth Vader's gonna be p*ssed when he finds out you took his gun. I'd call Luke and have him bring some of that Force thing with him.;)
PS I have also heard many good things about the p-series, one is one my short "to buy" list.

P95s are cool. I have one. I used it to qualify for my AZ CCW. They are a good solid accurate pistol. My P95 is the only one of all my handguns that I can say "15rds, 15 yds, one ragged quarter size hole!!!"

The P95 series is excellent and for me has been an acceptable shooter. A friend of mine let me put about 100 through his and I really enjoyed it. The thing is reliable as heck and was as accurate as I could manage.

The mags are interchangeable in the Ruger P9 series carbine.

Chalk me up as another happy P95 owner. Mine is dead-on reliable, easy to maintain, and most important of all it fits me. It's the handgun I shoot best. That's a personal thing, your mileage may vary. Still, it has a lot of advantages. Ruger's warranty service has a good rep, but you'll probably never need it. Polymer/stainless means no corrosion problems. Hi-caps are cheap -- CDNN sold me some USA mags for $7 each (and before anyone says USA mags are junk, I will say that mine have each had at least a hundred rounds apiece through them with zero malfs). The barrel, at 4" is long enough to generate some bullet speed. I recall reading a test somewhere that said 124 gr. Gold Dots got about 1130 fps out of the Ruger's barrel.

Two related products I highly recommend are the High Noon "Hideaway" IWB holster at:

And the Williams FireSights fiber optic front & rear sights at:

I won't say the P95 is the only good gun out there, but it is darned good. IMHO it does everything you'd ask of a Beretta 92 or SIG P228 for a couple of bills less.

The P-95 is an excellent gun, but don't overlook the CZ-75B. If it fits your hand (takes a larger hand than some guns), its outstanding.

I've had both, and prefer the CZ-75. Similar prices.

I sold my P95 because I didn't like the trigger pull. It was a good value and a good gun, but dry fire one a few times before buying.

I like the P95D. Great shooter, good feel, fits my hands. Great sights, big and wide. Easy to clean, fun, and reliable. As for the Hi-Point looking cool...:barf: :barf: Yuck yuck yuck! The picture looks bad enough without someone saying that it looks cool:)

Just for the record...

Both of my Hi-Points(9mm and 45 acp) have been accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. When I first went to purchase a handgun around Christmas last year, I was mainly looking at Kimber and Glock, but didn't know if I wanted 9mm or 45. When I showed up at the gun shop, the salesman explained that he had these two guns(Hi-Point) which he would not be able to sell after the new year. So, I bought both(had my Dad purchase the other for me) for little over $250 with extra clips. Now, I'm very glad I did. While, I'm sure many(many, many) people will disagree, Hi-Point is not a bad choice for inexpensive, entry level handguns, for a beginner who's not sure what to buy.

One more rave for the P95. Had mine for several years, never a misfire, jam, FTF or FTE. Eats anything including S&B, Winchester, UMC, Wolf, USA, American Eagle, PMC ..... 15 round mags still available for it (P89 fit). Mine's a decocker model with stainless slide(KP95DC). I don't like safeties for a carry gun.

Speaking of putting a sleeve on the P95, I was putting a Hogue Hand All on last night, and I tore a piece of skin off my palm. I should have heated it up first. I like the grip more, though!:)

I have a P95D. I put Millet adjustable sights and a bicycle innertube grip sleeve on it. I used it in IPSC. It is more accurate than I am and utterly reliable. Anything you can stuff in the mag will go out the barrel.

Ammo

I have mainly used Winchester White Box, and it is very accurate. I went shooting last night, and I was about to get a grouping about the size of the top of an aluminum can, all in the black.

Oh yeah, the one I have is stainless, and it cleans up very fast! I didn't shoot it to much last night, maybe 100 rounds, but I had it clean in less then five minutes. Cleaned the barrel, inside of the slide, and rails with Q-Tips.

Getting some great advice...

here, I appreciate it. Thanks for recommending the grip addition. What is the largest capacity magazine anyone has? What are some companies that sell them? This is a "just for the hell of it" question, but extended clips a kind of a cool novelty at the range.
Thanks again.
