Ruger K 77/22 VBZ trigger pull and accuracy?

Hello, I saw what appears to be a great deal on this rifle at the local shop. It is used but looks unfired, no sign of any type of wear, heavy stainless brl, laminated stock, priced at $299 (with rings, no scope). I'd like to use it for making the smallest possible holes from a bench at 100-yards plus. A few questions before I go back to the store:

1. Is this an inherently accurate rifle? How does it compare to other entry-level .22 bolts such as Winchester-52 and the low end Anchutz? What size groups is it capable of with ammo it likes at 100 yards?

2. How does one lower the trigger pull? It is crisp and short, but extremely heavy, like that of a 10/22 or a Bushmaster. I'm guessing 8 pounds, at least. If it can not be lightened to 3 pounds or less, I don't want to buy it. Is the trigger on it adjustable, or are there "drop in" kits available like on 10/22s?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Brownell's carry drop-in sears for the 77/22 that help the trigger pull. I drilled and tapped a hole in the receiver below and in front of the trigger housing, and put in a set screw as a trigger stop. (Take it out of the stock, you'll see what I mean).

The VBZ should shoot, Mine did. I was really impressed with the design and quality of the 77/22 receiver. Definetly over-engineered. I had mine set up with a Leuopold 12X as a 100yd 'mini sniper'.

That's great!

Thanks for the replies, this is just wanted I wanted to hear. Is the sear installation process fairly straight-forward for someone with no gunsmithing skills? Do you have a part number or some other way I can look the sear up at Brownells?

Volquartsen sear

I used the Volquartsen sear in my 77/22VBZM in .22Magnum. Great trigger then, but accuracy in .22Mag was so-so (.75-1" at 50 yards. My Winchester 9422 XTR in .22 Mag routinely kicked its butt. I sold it for that reason. In fairness, I never really experimented with a lot of loads.

It looked hell for strong. I would love to see a blued variant.

You can also go the aftermarket trigger spring route. I've done both my 77/22's with a lightened spring. With everything else box stock they have a much improved trigger that breaks at a guessed 3 pounds or so. Installation is the removal and reinstallation of a single loose fitting roll pin that holds the trigger in. Anybody can install them.
