Ruger is replacing my gun!!

I wrote some time ago about my Ruger Mk II that had come unscrewed. It was sent to Ruger a while back, and the guy at the shop who sent it off for me said they asked if I wanted it fixed or replaced, and he said replace it. They are replacing it, free of charge!!!! :)

Not only that, but I am getting an upgrade from the gun shop as well. Since the gun they are sending back is brand new, the shop owner agreed to let me trade it in and get the slab barreled competition model for the price difference of 40 bucks! I was looking to get the old one drilled and tapped anyway..... :D

I should get it this week or next... I never knew how much I used that little gun I had to send it off!! Can't wait to get my new plinker back!

Question though: Is the competition model accurate enough to use in a real competition?

Thats great, But what part came Unscrewed? the adjustible target sights are the only part I can think of that are held on using a screw????

Possibly the barrel itself.

As for accuracy: yes, it sure is. The difference in groups between a MkII and a good Euro-gun is probably the difference between a quarter and a nickel.

Yup, it was the barrel! Though my sight was leaning... turned out to be the barrel itself...

Accuracy went down hill just before I notisced the loose barrel...
Should be great to have an accurate pistol again!

Have to hand it to Ruger for making it right. They could have just tried to fix it and I would never have had a well shooting gun again... Not bad, not bad at all. ;)

I'm pretty sure that Ruger's quality control has slipped a bit in the last few years. However, I don't hesitate to recommend Ruger guns because I KNOW from my experiences that they will make any problems right to the satisfaction of the buyer.

"No honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun"
"I never meant for simple civilians to have my 20 or 30 round mags or my folding stock"
"I see nothing wrong with waiting periods."
"The best way to address the firepower concern is therefore not to try to outlaw or license many millions of older and perfectly legitimate firearms but to prohibit the possession of high capacity magazines. By a simple, complete and unequivocal ban on large capacity magazines, all the difficulty of defining 'assault rifle' and 'semi-automatic rifles' is eliminated. The large capacity magazine itself, separate or attached to the firearm, becomes the prohibited item. "

These are all quotes attributed to Bill Ruger. Consider this before purchasing or recommending Ruger guns.

The barrel????????

I have two mark II's KMK512, and the original 4" taper in blue

The barrel and reciever (Bolt tube is more accurate name) are machined out of 1 piece of steel, thats one reason why the price is reasonable.

The Barrel does not thread on a Mark II, sorry.

Now what part came UNSCREWED?????????

MB- Look closer, the barrel and reciever are actually two pieces that are pressed together. I had one work it's way forward a little and turn several years ago (just like it would if it was threaded). I pressed it apart, cleaned it, put some cylindrical bonding loctite in and pressed it together. No problems since and it still shoots better than I can.
