I also was pleasantly surprised by the trigger in my new Hawkeye. I have no plans to replace it. My son replaced the trigger in the Hawkeye I bought him with a Rifle Basics. He likes it.
One of the biggest changes when Ruger went to the Hawkeye was a much improved trigger. That and a few very subtle style changes are the only difference between the Hawkeye which came out in 2006 and the earlier MK-II.
My Hawkeye has a decent trigger but nowhere 3lbs like yours--no plans on replacing it as I want to keep it all stainless (All Weather .30-06) since its my gun for the worst conditions.
Now my Browning X-bolt has a REALLY nice trigger from the factory.
