Ruger Hawkeye 50mm objective Medium Rings?

Hi all, I was able to get a deal on a 50MM objective 4-16x50 scope for my Ruger Hawkeye 22-250... I want to keep the scope as low as possible, does anyone have a Ruger Hawkeye with a large objective and medium rings?

Or do I need to bite the bullet and get high rings?

Thank you in advance...!

:D

It will be tight. I got 40mm on mine with standard ruger rings. Got about little less than half inch of clearance.

I have a Ruger (tang safety type) with a Leupold 6.5X20 scope with a 50mm objective, and I had to put the high rings on it so the scope would clear the sporter weight barrel. I was a bit worried back then that the high mount (and high scope) would cause problems with getting a good cheek weld, but that hasn't been an issue. I do not remember if I had to get the tallest rings or not, but think that I did.

I have one wearing a 50mm objective lens in medium rings, with plenty of clearance to the sporter barrel.

I have one wearing a 50mm objective lens in high rings, with plenty of clearance to the varmint barrel. Medium rings wouldn't cut it with the varmint contour.

Neither are Hawkeyes, but the barrel contours and action dimensions did not change with the Hawkeye "update".

I have a 77 Mk II and a 50mm scope (same dimensions as Hawkeye). The medium rings won't work. I had to go to high. Don't buy anything but Ruger or Leupold rings for your Hawkeye. You'll regret it like I did.

FrankenMauser, I don't know how you got the medium rings to work. Could be a slight difference in scopes?

That is most likely the case. The 50mm measurement is just of the nominal lens diameter, not the external diameter of the objective bell.

Both of my scopes are Leupolds, with very compact bodies.
6.5-20x50mm on the Varmint model.
3.5-10x50mm on the sporter.

It's also possible that I have the one on the sporter mounted farther forward than the other rifles here.
