Ruger Gunsite Scout... what has been your best accuracy ammo...

I'll be reloading... but curious of those with these rifles out there, what bullet or ammo are you using to get best groups... how are they from the factory??? worthy of match ammo, or only hunting grade???

Mine is the stainless gun ( has a 2" longer barrel than the black gun ) I'm already planning on a stock upgrade ( have long arms & need a longer length of pull to do it justice )... will look at bedding, at that time... looking at decent scopes... of course those cost about as much as the rifle... ( I'll be scoping conventionally, not using a long eye relief scope ) though I do have a 3-9X Burris I might try for a while, until I can afford new glass???

I have an M-1A / M-14 style .308... but want ( to tune ) this bolt rifle ( if needed ) to shoot as good as I'm capable of... so the ammo with likely be different between the 2 rifles???

so... your bullet or cartridge of choice, for accuracy if you have one of the Rugers... if you have a stainless, with the longer barrel, even better... if you shoot gobs of .308 & have a good suggestion... I'm all ears

My Scout shoots sub MOA with the American Eagle 168 gr. load labeled "For M1A Use". This could work out well in both your rifles.

I assume you have done some work on the M1A ammo. Don't try to use the same ammo in both rifles. Have two completely different sets of ammo. One for the M1A, and a completely different set for the Ruger. Of course you can have common bullets, common primers, and even the same powder, but that's it.

The cases for the Ruger need only "Neck resizing", but the M1A will require "Full Resizing". I use "Small Base" RCBS dies for my M1A's (3 of them). The "Small Base" dies will work the "H311" out of the brass.

Good luck with the new Ruger....

When M14 and M1A rifles were popular in service rifle matches, the best of them would shoot good lots of Federal Gold Medal Match into about 4 inches at 600 yards; almost 1/4 inch at 100. But they were rebuilt with real match grade barrels, selective parts properly fit and epoxy bedded receivers in the stocks.
