Ruger Gunsite Scout Left Handed Model

Does anyone know if this rifle will ever be made in a left handed model. If they would I would be interested in finding one. If this option does not exist does anyone know of an alternative?

Ruger is not the best about treating southpaws in an equitable fashion. I write and do many things left-handed so I understand your frustration when it comes to finding lefty specific items. Luckily I shoot right-handed. As for the GSR, I would not hold my breath waiting for a lefty model because it probably won't happen. The GSR as a right-handed firearm is still a niche rifle. A lefty GSR would be a very specific rifle & may not ever sell enough to be financially justifiable.

With that said, I never dreamed ruger would produce AR platform rifles, CCW pistols, & hi-cap mags all for public consumption. So who knows....

It is very hard to find the special and different rifles in southpaw. Best bet is to take a used left handed rem, ruger, or savge new or used and build your own. The short actions in LH are the hardest to find so you might just go long action, in any of those standard calibers that just bend the scout rifle rules.

I recently had a light 3.08 build but my story isn't ready. I didn't go scout sights but it's close on other accounts.

One rifle ruger makes that is truly southpaw friendly and that is the Ruger #1... Sure they make the M77 Hawkeye left handed.. But you have more options with the #1...

Wasn't it in 2003 or 2004, that an act passed that ended up requiring firearms manufacturers to make all models available to lefties at the same price point (within a reasonable time frame)?

Call Ruger, see what they have to say.

It tied in to some disability laws, if I remember correctly.

Ruger makes nearly all their bolt guns in left handed models, so there is a good chance they will offer a lefty GSR in the future. From what I have been reading lots of folks are screaming for variations on this model but Ruger cannot keep up with the demand for the one they are producing now. Who knows, if demand truly is that high it might turn into a whole line of rifles.

I called Ruger about this very question. All that is available in LH variations is wood stocked Hawkeyes. I have a grey laminate Hawkeye that is LH and it is no longer produced either.

M77

I own an M77 in left hand and that is the same action. I can't imagine that it would be that hard to do the scout in the same. I am interested in the scout because it is short and light with a high cap magazine. All of these things make it the ideal Vermont hiking rifle.

Let me be clear I don't feel the need to carry a rifle on every day hikes however while hunting I often cover great distances carrying a heavy rifle only to end up with a fairly short shot.

Ruger now makes the Gunsite Scout left handed...Item # 6814 on their website. Nobody has any in stock that I can find, but I'm gonna order 2 when I find 'em. Happy Independence Day!

You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger Ruger fan than Yours Truly, but I REFUSE to buy their new Scout Rifle {at least until they offer it in stainless;)}.

LOL, 6Gunner, I wouldn't hold my breath on a SS (would be excellent, tho). I'm just glad they've catalog'd a lefty. Now, if I can find one or two...

Bolt Gunner: I shoot long guns the "right" way, but handguns I use southpaw, so I kinda feel your pain. Roashooter: I wish you hadn't told me that...now I have to sit here knowing that somewhere in some foreign land, some yahoo has MY rifle! ;)
