Ruger GP100

Just made the down payment on a used, blue, 6", half lug GP100. Am in the waiting period.

Nice revolver, the person that sold it to me said he believed it was about 20 years old.

Does anyone know of a serial number / Mfg. date reference for Ruger GP100 revolvers? Also does anyone know when Ruger disccontinued the half lug GP100?

Thanks,

Jerry

Thanks

Thanks so much for the reference table. It appears the seller spoke the truth. Per the table, the revolver was shipped in 1986, the first year!

WOW.

I really like the half lugs. I wish Ruger still made them on the 6" My brother-in-law has one that I've shot several times (nice balance).

I have a GP100 6" Blue half lug. My Serial number 175-478XX places it in the 2008-2009 time frame. I bought new from a LGS in mid-2010

That's interesting

That's interesting! I didn't know Ruger made them that recently. They are rare at gun shows in Florida and command a small premium.

Have wanted one for several years. I have had a GP100, blue, 6", full lug for about 7 years. It is the only revolver I shoot. I shoot in a local club PPC match. It has always felt a little muzzle heavy.

Have been looking for a half lug for a couple of years. I am excited I found one at a reasonable price. If $525.00 is a reasonable price?

Maybe it is because I wanted blue steel. I think the SS GP100's are far more popular. And with reasons I understand. Why would anyone want blue steel?

However, I just like blue steel guns. Silly isn't it.

Thanks for the input.

I too like blued Ruger DA's.

What's the differences between the GP100 and the Security Six?
The SecSix looks a mite like a shrunken Redhawk.

I like both the blue and the stainless 6" half lug GP100. The blue GP was made in the 2008-2009 time frame and I found it in 100% NIB condition(Still unfired). The stainless GP was discovered about 6 months later in 99% condition. It is pictured with my 2.75" Security-Six which was purchased along with the stainless GP!:

Boa2-- Those GPs are nice (and the Security Six). I would love to find a GP with the half lug, but they don't emerge around here very often

Well, I hope that you will find a 6" half lug GP100 soon. Although I found both of the above half lug 6" GP's fairly close together, it was a very long hunt until I suddenly hit the "Jackpot" and discovered these!:)

Thanks for the compliment on the guns.:) The grips on the GP were shipped originally on the gun. Amazingly, the Ruger owners manual had the same graining on the wood inserts in the picture of the GP on the front cover.

Even here in CA you'd rarely see a half lug GP100!

Regarding the stainless half lug GP100 and the Security-Six above and how I managed to acquire these two revolvers at the same time: There was a classified ad on the 2-3/4" stainless Security-Six place by a guy in Southern CA. I contacted him and he had agreed to drive up to a Northern CA gun shop to do a private party transfer. Upon entering this gun shop I immediately spotted the GP in their gun case and bought it on the spot along with the Security-Six. The gun shop had just placed the GP in their gun case just a few minutes before I'd walked through their front door! Talk about a lucky day!:)

Venom1956:

Is your 4" half lug GP100 chambered in the .38 Special caliber? If true-it seems that awhile back I'd seen your GP posted just about the time I'd picked up this same revolver in like new condition also chambered in .38 Special? Following is a photo of this GP:

Venom1956:

I used to have a NIB blue 4" .357 half lug GP100 but I sold it because I have plenty of 4" Ruger Six series .357 revolvers. Also, I wanted to own one of the rarer 4" half lug GP100's in the .38 Special caliber. Mine was purchased directly from Ruger by the original owner-thus, it wasn't one of the used police GP's.
