Ruger GP100 or Taurus Raging Bull

I’m thinking of getting the Taurus in .44 mag (since I can use .44spl in it as well) but ammo cost is a factor since I don’t reload (just yet). That made me take a good look at the GP100 (.357mag) because of the lower ammo cost, (but to be honest it’s not my first choice; in fact I’d probably rather get another semi-auto instead...) I know they are two different calibre guns, but I just want the gun (Raging Bull) not necessary the .44...

Unlike with the Ruger, I don’t have a lot of experience (read none) with the Taurus. :o

Does anyone owns both guns, which do you like better? Or since I never seen them together, if you have a picture of both guns side to side that would be awesome. :)

What do you guys think?

btw I'm only considering 6in version for both models, for range use only.

GP100: An outstanding, all purpose, mid-size .38 Special/.357 magnum. I own two and their quality, accuracy, durability, and reliability are excellent.

Taurus: Please check the TFL achieves and you will find significant evidence of inconsistent quality and terrible customer service.

do you reload?

Well, do you reload? It makes all the difference in terms of cheap shooting. With my .357, I shoot my handload reload .38's which cost me around $2.50 for a box of 50 (125 gr. lead TC, fed primer, 4gr of Bullseye). My .45acp loads are currently going for around $3.50 - $4.00 a box.

For $3.50 a box I can afford to shoot my 45 quite a bit...especially compared to $10+ for ACP's and $6-8ish for decent .38 specs.

all I can say is my handloading paid for itself in no time and has made practice ammo delightfully stupid cheap.

(Edit: Failed to mention, you can always shoot 44 specials...)

Thanks for teh replies

T. O'Heir, no I don't like the Ruger .44 like I said I don't really 'need' the .44...

rnovi, no I don't reload yet, but if I'll get teh .44 I'll start for sure ;)

Russ5924, I meant I'd rather get another semi-auto instead of Ruger, so yeah I'll probubly get the Taurus :)

Does anyoen have (/can take) a picture of the Raging Bull with GP100 side to side.

Whats going on with you buddy your asking really weird questions. It sounds like you want a big ass gun the way you want to see a picture of them both together and say you dont care about the calber you just want the gun. If this is true you want a Taurus 608. Its a huge 8 shot 357 about the size of the raging bull but cheaper to shoot. Now what movie inspired all this?

Weird questions? That da …

no there’s no movie…I never saw a Raging Bull in a movie (yet)

I just really like the design of the gun and I think it should be a pretty good revolver. I guess 608 is something to consider, but I still like the RB better.

Btw I’m not looking for a snubie, so yeah I want a big gun, but it’s not a main factor...

So no pics yet huh :p

your thoughts

The Ruger most likely WILL satisfy; the Taurus might.

I am not a loyalist, but most of my wheels are Rugers; I own one Taurus auto, and IT ain't a 'toy'.

Ruger

All my Tauruses (3) have been POSs. You'd think I'd have learned the first or second time . . . there won't be a fourth time.

OTOH, all my Rugers have been absolute tanks-- solid, tough guns that shoot straight and last (what more could you ask from a mid-priced gun?). When you compare Ruger's prices to Taurus (about the same) it's a wonder to me that anyone buys a Taurus' guns at all.

Well yes some Taurus' have some kinks to be worked out however the raging bull is a pretty safe buy. As a matter of fact some believe the RB is the gun that brought the company to where it is today. I heard before it they were cosidered substandard and now their one of the largest companies. So you can pick on any Taurus exept that one. IM lugger I was thinking about your post and think maybe youd be better off with the 454casull. That way you definatley have handgun hunting coverd but you can shoot 45LC cowboy loads in it for fun which are easier to find than 44 specials.
