Ruger GP100 barrel

I was cleaning my GP-100 the other day. When I grabbed ahold of the barrel it turned a bit. I was able to completely unscrew it from the frame.

Now, this doesn't seem normal to me but I haven't been a gun owner for very many years. Should I get this in to a 'smith, put a dab of loc-tite on it, or just not worry about it?

I would take it to a gunsmith. I dont think you could get it tight enough without the right tools. Plus he could check the threads on the barrel and the frame. Some manufactures use crush fit threads or some other secial thread on barrels and frames.

I'd contact ruger customer service. They might want to fix it regardless of formal warrente status.

Just screwin it in tight is a bad odds operation. Not likely that the torque will be right at the same time as the sight is aligned and the gap proper.

Definitely return it to Ruger. Normally, a loose barrel is corrected by rolling the shoulder, but it could cause trouble in that gun.
