Ruger GP Match Champion has come home

Returned from my LGS just after dark. Earlier they called and let me know that my GP Match Champion 357 had come in. As quickly as my Supercharged Buick would take me safely, I arrived at the LGS, 20 miles from home, and secured my weapon.

Cost was $669.00 + tax for a total of $710.00. It's comfortable to pickup and to swing and should be fast for shooting multiple targets. The sights are black, good size, with sharp lines for fast centering of the front FO and the FO is bright and big.

Finish on the gun is a sort of muted polish, all the lines straight without waves or warble. B/C gap .005. DA trigger pull is smooth without glitches or rough spots and breaks between 9 & 10 lbs. SA trigger pull is crisp and breaks without slack or grit at 5 lbs.

I replaced the factory grips as the big wood "goober" that grows at the rear top of the receiver, keeps me from obtaining a proper DA hold with correct placement of trigger finger. The rest of the grip feels great so I think this Hogue has a date with a belt sander.

The old Ruger round butt grip made by Lett's is what is on the gun now. And the DA works perfectly. Being an old cop who was taught Revolver 102, DA shooting only, that's how this Ruger will be used.

This gun is solid and it is reminiscent of the old Colt Official Police. If this gun shoots half as good as it looks and feels then I've found a new "go to" gun.

I shoot it tomorrow and post pics after I study your tutorial.

Congratulations. I have several semi autos, but for fun shooting I like my Ruger SP101 better. I have been trying to talk myself into a GP100 Match Champion.
It might take me a while longer, but I am sure my sales techniques will eventually win over my sensibility, (already have a dozen guns).

This looks to me like it might be the start of a "Ruger Performance Center". We haven't really seen anything like that from Ruger so far. The closest is maybe that run of NewVaqs for SASS that came in pairs, had a SASS logo and the lowered hammer from the Montado (similar to a SuperBlackhawk) but there was no action job or real handling improvements. The GP Match is far more factory modified than the SASS NewVaqs were.

I think it's also the only factory action job from Ruger I've ever heard of. Sweet.

Nice. How about some pictures?

I have one of the old half-lug Rugers that I just picked up gently used and hope to shoot it tomorrow. It would be fun to compare it to a Match Champion sometime.

i just put money down on a match champion today...i love this gun,i cant wait to shoot it....it feels really good and looks really good.. the price was 700 dollars and was in a gun store with good prices as well.. i think the msrp was around 900 dollars...

Update from Ruger at SHOT- the first couple hundred or so shipped with TWO front sights, one for .357 & one for .38.
After that the decision was made to ship with only the .357 sight.

If you've heard of two fronts being included & anybody buying one now only getting one, that's why.
