Ruger Gold Label Question

I just got my 2004 Ruger catalouge in the mail. After perusing the pages for an hour or so, I wiped the drool from my chin and went to my friendly neighborhood gun store in search of a new Gold Label side by side. No luck there, or at the next store, or the next. Do these guns exist? If so, why can't I find one in Utah? Words of comfort and counsel would be appreciated. I'm struggling with this one. Sniff.

Bill Rugers last gun! He wanted the gun to be like his Scottish round body SXS and wanted it done right. I understand the lockwork is the same as they put into the 28ga O/U.

I suspect it has a lot of teething problems, and Ruger does not want the same reputation they got with the first Red Label O/U's.

JMB's last gun was the superposed, one of the all time great guns. Let's hope Rugers last gun will be also.

Hi BB,
The Gold Labels do exist.
Ruger has been slow in getting them out because there were a couple problems in late development, and they didn't want to let them go before the guns were where they wanted them to be.
Ruger's dribbling them out in small lots to distributors who were promised guns early on, and they may take a while to make it to Lehi, but they're moving.
I'm still waiting for a test sample out here by Tooele.
Hang in there, both stock versions I've hefted at the SHOT Show were very nice. They're light, which is great for carry, but you probably won't want to do a full day's shooting with heavy loads in them.
Another factor in making/distributing them is that they're among Ruger's top-end guns in both price & quality. I suspect that'll keep them in low numbers generally.
Good luck.

Yes they exist!

I just handled a Red Lable O/U today at Galyons in Las Vegas at the Gallaria mall today. I was not looking for a side by side. They had a very impressive gun seection! I would bet they did have at least one. Not sure where you are in Utah, but maybe that is an option!

I just saw one in a local gun store here in Colorado the other day. Sweet looking! You might want to wait just a little while to get one though. As your learned friend above mentioned....the first Red Labels had some issues. Further, a couple of my late model Red Labels have developed some problems. My stainless, 30" 12 guage doesn't like 3" hot steel rounds. The safety kicks itself on between shots. I should get rid of it but it is awesome on long distance Chukars and Pheasant! I also had a blue Red Label which decided to bulge BOTH barrels on the first two shots. Yup! I double checked the chokes..... they were both Modified. The Ruger factory did a REALLY POOR job of taking care of the problem! They had it for two months and when I called...they said it was in line and they would get to it when they had a chance. Luckily my local gun store owner took care of me. You might just want to hang out a bit and see what other owner's think before you take the $$$$ plunge.
