Ruger Garand upper for AR15 lower?

It would be a right good idea if ruger tooks its garand like action, chamber it for 6.8 SPC and make it compatable to fit on an AR15 lower so it would accept M16 magazines.

A platform like that could place a SHTF gun in the hands of our troops and at the same time clear the highest hurdle of US service rifle requirments...... That it accept M16 dimension magazines.

I'm so confused by this thread that I have no choice...

Ruger's "Garand" action is the Mini-14, and it's a shorter gas system lacking the piston of the Garand or M14 rifles. Magazines rock into the receiver location rather than directly insert. The receiver does not lend itself to distinctions like an AR "upper" or "lower" and the M14/M1/Mini design is certainly not modular in the way you describe.

The way F-troop deals with the concept of a receiver, such a weapon as you attempt to describe would actually be two distinct serial numbered weapons.

I think he means putting a Mini-14 action on top of a AR-15 magazine well.

But regardless, I don't think it would work.

I hate the Mini 14 action, myself...too loose and floppy. I prefer a precision bolt/upper with tight tolerances.
